I have looked at youtube, wahoo, previous posts on the zwift forum but nothing stands out to me that this compatibility doesn’t work?
Changing the cassette size due to fitting another bike on the trainer.
My shimano hg710 12 speed, 11-36t cassette doesn’t fit on the kickr core. The locking nut only works with it done up to an 11 speed without adding the final 11t ring.
The issue in iteself seems to be the 12t (11th ring out of 12).
What might the solution be? Or what do i need to change?
You don’t have the 1.85mm spacer on the freehub, right? With that removed it looks like that cassette should be compatible. You could take it to a bike shop to get some experienced eyes on it. Things like that are difficult to troubleshoot remotely without a lot of pictures.
I can’t see the details so at the risk of telling you some things you already know…
A Hyperglide cassette has one wide spline to make sure they are all lined up correctly. So that second cog on the freehub must have its wide spline in the right position.
Worn freehubs can get a bit chewed up. It’s more of a problem on the aluminum ones compared to steel but it can prevent a cog from sliding on easily. The solution to that is to find the burr that is stopping the cog from sliding on, and file it off.
Anyway, I think your best option is to visit a bike shop. I would be curious to hear what they have to say - whether it’s a compatibility problem or something else. I can’t speak with certainty about what you’re seeing so the comments above may be off the mark.
Yup, they have an arrow aswell to show the location/mating point of it, or it wont slot on. I thought i could have done it wrong but don’t believe so as it slotted on fine - and with the other cassette cogs on to.
Certainly peculiar. I’ve not had an issue previously, but then again, not used a 12 speed on the trainer before.
The previous 10 speed on there was absolutely fine, the issue in this case is primarily the last cog going on and the locking mechanism can’t reach whatever it needs to, to grip (terrible explanation i know).
I’ve asked wahoo directly now anyway so can report back - but i did fine another thread with someone having the same issue, apparently brute force was required
Not sure if any of these additional images help atall.
No spacer between the cassette and freehub body end (although to note, if the spacer is added it eliminates the gap that is between the 12t and 13t cogs - further on in images).
Wahoo states no spacers required for 12speed cassettes, right?
Which generation of KICKR is it? Here’s how to ID yours on the Wahoo site.
You should contact Wahoo to ask them if it’s possible that your freehub body is the older & narrower Hyperglide-10 design.
Shimano’s CS-HG710-12 cassette will fit on their newer Hyperglide-11 compatible freehub bodies that more recent KICKR generations use. The HG-11 bodies are 1.8 mm wider than the HG-10, which is why 10 speed cassettes will fit and 11 and 12’s will not.
You really want to talk to Wahoo Support about this.
Afraid no. The Zwift Cog requires you use virtual shifting. Virtual Shifting is not supported on KICKR generations before v6 or KICKR Core v1.
Your best hope is that that Wahoo’s newer freehub bodies retrofit on the v1, and continue to use the derailleur to change resistance. You may or may not need Wahoo’s newer generation of axle adapters too. Be sure to ask Wahoo about that too.
Sorry if you thought I was nitpicking. But jumped in because @Cam can in fact install a Zwift Cog and use it with virtual shifting, right? ie. before he bothers with Wahoo support on a retrofitted freehub conversation.
