Help! For the last 2 weeks my current Zwift ride is not showing in the companion app - no map or nearby zwifters. I have checked all the usual stuff such as same network, local network settings etc and even deleted and reinstalled on all devices. Currently running Zwift on Apple TV ver 1.114 and companion app on iPhone 16 v3.84. Not sure how to fix and also causing problems connecting my heart rate monitor. All rides and activities show in the app Home Screen. Thanks
Have you rebooted every bit of network equipment in your home? Is the network complicated at all, like multiple WiFi nodes or extenders? Do you have good signal in the training area, so both devices stay on the 5GHz band? Most common reasons for no connection are either permissions on the devices (usually resolved by re-installing the apps and saying yes to any permission prompts) or something going on in the home network.
Thanks Paul. I have reset my router, updated my WiFi mesh and updated all apps etc. but still no map. It was working ok before the latest update but my issue seems isolated so doubt this is the reason. I will leave it 24hrs and reset everything again before my next ride and keep my fingers crossed!
With mesh networks, you can run into problems if the Apple TV connects to one of the nodes but the iPhone connects to a different one. Also if one of them is on 5GHz WiFi and one is on 2.4GHz WiFi, that can cause problems as well. That’s why having strong signal in the training area is important because weak signal may cause one device to fall back to the 2.4GHz band while the other might remain on the 5GHz band. You can rule out that possibility by creating separate network names for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands and connecting both devices to the same one. Weak signal can also cause an iPhone to switch to cellular data if you have the WiFi Assist feature turned on. One way to rule that out would be to put the phone in airplane mode and then manually enable WiFi so it’s unable to use cellular data. The WiFi Assist feature can also be disabled in settings.
I have a 2-node mesh system and if my phone connects to the upstairs node, sometimes I walk downstairs for Zwift and find that it stays connected to the upstairs node. But if I turn off WiFi, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on, then it will prefer the downstairs node. Such are the vagaries of mesh networks.
Hi Paul,
thanks again for your support. After much perseverance and numerous reboots I have managed to find an issue with a faulty update to one of the nodes on the mesh. This has been resolved and everything is back to working as it should!!
Many thanks and have a great weekend!
