Hi, I use Zwift with a wahoo kickr bike via an Apple TV. I have no problems pairing the bike to Zwift but I am no longer able to see my data/ride map etc on the Companion App. However, I can join events via the companion app so I know there must be a connection. I have deleted and reinstalled the app several times and checked I’m on the latest updates. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Joining events involves communication between Companion and the Zwift servers, so it just needs a valid login and Internet access. The map and ride data involves communication between Companion and your Apple TV device over your local network. This requires that both devices are permitted to access the local network, and that the design of your network (your WiFi / router) does not block the automatic discovery process. When reinstalling the app, you may see requests for network permission, which must be allowed. The devices need to be on the same WiFi network, and may need to also be connected to the same WiFi access point. For example my network is a two-node mesh upstairs & downstairs. If the game device connects to downstairs and Companion connects to upstairs, it will not pair to the game. Some of the common reasons for this failure are in this document: Issues with Zwift Companion App
Thanks for your response Paul. Both devices are on the same WiFi with the Apple TV plugged into the router via an ethernet cable so could this be the issue?
The ethernet cable shouldn’t be an issue, but how is the wifi signal where you are trying to use the Companion app? If it’s there, but a bit spotty, some people have had success by turning off the cellular signal (effectivity forcing the phone onto wifi). And do you have a mesh network? Some people have expressed that a mess network isn’t reliable for connecting the Companion app to the Zwift game.
Did it ever work, or has it always been 100% broken?
Rebooting all of the network equipment should be high on the list of things to try.
Thanks Nigel, my phone, bike, Apple TV and the router are all in the same room but I’ll give this a try.
It used to work but I don’t think it has properly (it has once or twice after reboots/deletion/reinstalling etc) since I started using an eero 6 router which is linked to my old Talktalk router as I use this for the addition ports and extenders placed in other parts of my house.
Both devices must connect to the same router so that’s the first thing I would want to prove. There’s no way it can work if the routers are both doing network address translation and the devices aren’t communicating with the same router
Thanks Paul, I’ll make the change and see how it goes.
Hi Paul/Nigel, I tried Zwift just now having been off the bike for a while with a cold. I plugged the ethernet cable directly from the Apple TV to the Eero modem rather than my Talktalk modem and it seemed to work ok now. So, thanks for your advices.
