Resistance problem (gear 24 is too easy)

Hi, I have a problem with virtual shifting and resistance. Using Van Rysel D100 Zwift Cog and Click my first month and only today I realized there’s a problem that the resistance is too low and too easy. I climb the hills on gear 24 and can’t get more than 200 watts, only if I’m sprinting at the maximum power I can get to 300 or something for a few seconds.

I thought it was normal, but my suspicions grew until I found out today that it’s not normal at all. I only connect via the Zwift app on my laptop, everything is connected correctly, but the resistance is very low. I tried searching the forums, but couldn’t find any specific solution to my problem

Does anyone know what my problem could be? I hope I can fix it so that I can start racing and really push myself.

Have you calibrated the trainer using the OneLap Fit app?

I tried the OneLap Fit app today, but I can’t connect the trainer via Bluetooth. The app is trying to connect, but then disconnects after a few seconds.

The trainer is listed in Bluetooth on my phone, but it won’t connect. I tried disconnecting all possible devices (I only have a laptop, Garmin watch, and wireless headphones, nothing else), I tried to restart everything, disconnect, reconnect, but nothing works. The Van Rysel trainer tries to connect, but immediately disconnects… I don’t know what to do…

For the test, I deleted all the past Bluetooth devices from my phone and also turned off the bluetooth on my laptop so nothing is interfering. But still, phone can’t connect to the trainer, even if it is just next to him. But it connects to the laptop smoothly.

Are you certain that no other app is paired to the trainer, such as Zwift or anything else?

Have you unplugged the trainer and plugged it back in before trying to calibrate?

If you can’t get that to work then you need to talk to Decathlon / Van Rysel. I don’t know if calibrating will help but it’s a good test of the trainer.

Thank you for your help! Yes, no other app is paired, Zwift game is off (and also turned off the bluetooth on laptop). I also tried to unplug and plug the trainer a few times.

I can only connect through Zwift game on my laptop, then everything works smoothly. But when I try to connect via phone, it just doesn’t work. That’s why I can’t try to calibrate the trainer via OneLap Fit either.

It’s strange, anyway, thank you!

Isn’t this the trainer that Shane Miller calibrated against a set of pedal power meters, in his review?

Something is clearly wrong if gear 24 is reporting such low power.

Pairing for the Zwift Click controllers needs to be over Bluetooth.

Have you tried pairing the Clicks over Bluetooth on Companion app on a mobile?

Have you gone into Zwift settings and tried changing trainer difficulty to 100% (albeit the D100 has a max gradient simulation of ~6%) and changing the virtual gearing profile (iirc default is mixed terrain, there’s also a flat TT and a climbing profile)?

Zwift Click controllers pairs via Bluetooth to the Zwift game and also to the Companion App just well. The trainer connects just to the Zwift game but not the Companion App. It looks like I have a problem with the Bluetooth connection through my phone but it’s strange – there’s nothing interfering, it just won’t connect.

I haven’t tried changing the trainer difficulty but I will tomorrow. Hopefully this can help. I don’t think I can change the virtual gearing profile (I don’t see where).

I now tried to install the OneLap on Windows on my laptop and it pairs with the trainer well. Is it possible to calibrate it here? I don’t see any option to do that…

Have you accidentally connected the trainer to your phone in the phone’s Bluetooth settings? If so, remove it from there, and only connect directly in the Zwift app.

What is the phone?

Thanks! I removed it repeatedly from Bluetooth settings on the phone (OnePlus Nord2), tried to connect it directly in the Companion app. All I can get is connection to Clicks, as you can see on the screenshot (all other devices are shut off, nothing interferes). Trainer is listed in the “equipment available” in the Bluetooth settings but never connects to Companion App.

Do you have access to either an iPhone or iPad you could test it with?

Well, unfortunately no  Maybe I can try to remove all the other devices (watches, headphones and HRMPro) completely, to try if it somehow interferes or something…

I removed everything from Bluetooth (unpaired), restarted the phone, restarted the trainer but still it won’t pair with the companion app…

UPDATE: Somehow I was finally able to pair the trainer with the OneLap Fit app, it suddenly works! I will try to calibrate it tomorrow and report if it helped. Firmware looks updated.
