The thru axle was possible to screw in from the opposite/wrong side, but not from the correct side. It was very sensitive to the angle of the axle, and the angle was just not correct when inserting from the correct side.
I tried screwing in the thru axle from the correct side and was finally able to do it by de-creasing the distance/changing the angle. I had the bike laying on its side without the Kickr Core, and was putting half my bodyweight through one foot placed on the bike frame right next to the thru axle insert. This made the frame bend sufficiently for correct angle.
The force put directly on the thru axle while screwing it in was also substantial. Was then able to screw it in place.
Managed to replicate the same procedure with the kickr core place on its side as well (had to remove the kickr core «vertical stabilizer bars» first).
The issue im having is when the thru axel plus the 142 adaptor is in place and secured there is a grinding noise from the drivetrain side and the pedals/Chainring simply wont turn.
Is it necessary to use both adaptors? as there simply isn’t space and the thru axle wont engage in the non drive train side threads.
That sounds similiar to the issue I’m having. I have the Kickr core and the cog v2 (all black)came pre installed.
Which adaptor setup did you use? I used just the 142 on the non drive train side and it accommodates the thru axel but the grinding noise and jumping chain, when i hand turn the pedals makes it unusable.
I tried once to use both adapters but the thru axel simple isnt long enough for the threads to engage…so frustrating.
Same issue with the through axle. Very frustrating. When I contacted chat support, they made no comment that this was something happening to others. Very disappointing. Back with support today. Wish me luck.
Same issues here. It is quite frustrating that the thru axle doesnt fit. The bike is quite expensive for that quality! Hope they will fix it. The support is not the fastest.
Unfortunately having the same issues. Opened a ticket , i hope, by sending an email to support@zwift.com.
Does anyone have an indication on the response times? Its a 1300 euro product, but QC seems to have some serious issues. And now just waiting for any sort of human response from zwift.
Thru-axle wont thread, frame seems to have some rustlike spots, a chip on the non drive chainstay and some wear marks above the axle hanger thingy. And the wahoo it came with also shows marks of use on its feet. Starts to look like i got a Ride that was returned.
Overall, as a new customer to Zwift, hardly impressed by the quality of their product, if support takes ages… Im off to something better, as i dont see any company doing this bad actually.
Just make sure you don’t follow up by sending more emails. Zwift have said that doing so moves you to the back of the queue. So just be patient and they’ll get to you. Zwift support staff also monitor these forums so hopefully your post here will help bring their attention to your problem as well.
I just got my zwift ride yesterday. Same issue as others, thru axel will not engage the threads on the frame. They are sending a new thru axel which, it sounds like, will not work. Really bummed as this is brand new. Sold my other trainer in anticipation, now I am unable to train while this gets resolved….
Yup! Same exact thing that happened to me. I sold my Kickr Core and bought this bike then experienced 4 weeks of down time due to the back and forth with Zwift.
Once you get the thru axle and verify that it also doesn’t work, they will send a new frame.
I truly don’t understand why they are continuing to waist time and money with this process!
My theory is that Zwift is placing the returned frames back into circulation. When I got my frame, I noticed some unusual scuffs on the rear of the frame, the front tablet holder plastic was broken and just free floating in the box, and there appeared to be some chipping on the thru-axle threads.
Yes! I got my Ride yesterday, and I cannot thread the thru axle - it simply will not connect with the non-drive side. Zwift is sending me a new frame, but it’s pretty annoying that, first, I have to wait for it while everything else is getting lonely sitting around; second, that I have to box up the defective frame; third, that I have to schlep it to FedEx to send back to Zwift. For this I paid $75 in shipping? Ah, well, in the long term it should be fine.
when I did chat with Zwift support yesterday, the rep immediately said they’d send a new frame without even trying to send a new axle, so it seems that they know this is a big issue.
Sadly, this did not work for me. It threaded from the opposite side, but still would not thread when I tried it from the drive side (off the Kickr Core).
Some people have received frames that apparently have the axle spacing too wide, and were able to thread it in by laying the bike on its side and pushing hard on the rear triangle. This might help you ride while you wait for support to send you a new one.
You got lucky! Some of us, myself included, had to go through customer support’s lengthy flow of first trying a new thru-axle then contacting them again once that didn’t work.
Go ahead and laugh, but I gave it another try by nearly sitting on the frame, a d got it to work off the Core. Then I tried it on the Core, and voilà ! I’m going to make sure it works before telling them to cancel the new frame, but there’s progress! Here’s to you!
If you feel the frame is still faulty, like you can’t easily get it on and off the trainer, I would still seek the replacement. I just want you to have some great rides even if it needs replacing.
