Has anyone else had issues with the thru axle in setting up their bike? I couldn’t get the first one to thread. They sent me another one and I can’t get that to thread. Fits through fine when the bike isn’t in place, but as soon as the bike is on I can’t get it through enough to thread.
What sort of bike are you talking about? Front or rear? Attaching to a trainer (if so, what kind?), or just when putting the wheel on?
Zwift Trainer onto wahoo.
Do you mean a Zwift Ride bike, on a Wahoo Kickr Core trainer, or something else? If so, the threads are probably only on the Ride part of this, and probably only on one side, so if you’re not putting the thru axle in from the correct side you may experience an issue.
Hi, I got my zwift ride Bike today and unfortunately, i ve the same problem. The thru axle turns and turns but i cant tighten it :(. The threat on the screw has a problem, or the threat on the bike… waiting for a solution…
I thought it was the thru axle, but it is actually the threads on the frame. I contacted them about it and they’ve been great. A slow process, but they are on it. Obviously a disappointment because the rest of the setup was so easy and smooth. But hopefully next week I’ll be up and riding. Sorry to hear you’re having the same problem. I hope they sort it out for you.
Please post what you end up doing, I also believe the threads on my frame are damaged or stipped. I just reached out for new thru axle. By the look of it, this may be a mfg issue for recent builds with the frames since our issue seems to be happening all around the same time.
Zwift was great enough to send a new frame. And the threads are just fine. Glad they made it work. In your comms with them I would ask for a frame replacement as well as a new axle. I used the old axle and it was a bit of a bear getting it in, but it worked. I think the threads on the axle might have gotten a bit chewed up from the last frame so better to start with everything fresh.
I’m having exact same issue. Thru-axle not biting threads at all, just spins. I’ve tried everything. Like many others I’m still waiting for a solution.
Send it back or tap the threads
Are you having the same problem? Is that what you did?
No, I repair bicycles. Bad threads are a not-unusual manufacturing defect, whether due to paint in the threads or a manufacturing error, bad tooling, etc. On most new bikes the thru-axle is installed at the factory so it would be caught there. Since it’s a new product I’d return it for a replacement but if you take it to a bike shop you would most likely get the same suggestion to either try tapping it out, or replace it.
Have you already tried installing the thru-axle with the bike off the trainer? That might help you understand if it’s misaligned (ie, the right side hole not perfectly in line with the left side threads) or if it’s just bad threading.
Yes I tried threading it off the trainer, tried to create a better angle of approach by squeezing the frame just a bit while threading, but still no
How about trying to thread it in from the left side of the left dropout?
I got it solved. I took the bike and trainer put them both on their sides supported by some cardboard boxes. I had to push the stays together pretty hard while really pushing down on the thru-axle. Got it to bite finally then the rest was easy I think their QA checks need a lot of work!
Assuming you are using the correct spacers on the trainer, it sounds like the flaw could be incorrect dropout spacing on the frame
Yeah I’ve been repairing and building my own bikes for over a decade. It’s the 142mm adapters for this frame. Correct. If I have to minimize the spacing to get the correct thru-axle angle alignment, I’d say you’re right! The message I received from Zwift support seems to validate that as well. It appears there are a few frames that shouldn’t have passed this QA.

I’m having the same exact issue. I just attempted to setup my Ride bike and the thru axle is not engaging at all. I’m incredibly frustrated. I’m currently trying to get in touch with Zwift support to see what can be done.
Is it a problem with the thru axle length or the bike threads? I’m having the same issue and zwift is only trying to send me a replacement thru axle. I’m skeptical of the solution
