I like ticking off the routes, gives me something to work towards when I wanna do an easy ride. Wouldn’t wanna lose this when I complete them all. How about a prestige system? When you’ve done all the routes you can choose to reset them and go to prestige 1 and start ticking them off again, and so on (possibly with cool badges or a jersey reward).
I think this has been mentioned a few times. @Daren has said some things about it IIRC.
Yeah, I first asked about it back in 2018.
This is another:
To be fair, they don’t get large numbers of votes so I doubt we’ll ever get anything like this.
The problem with prestige is that the shine is taken off it by all the folks who game the system.
That’s where I like more route expansions to allow things like Haute Route style courses and events with big elevation and distances. The prestige there is simply having those available where other cycling apps do not.
And for someone to be able to right them.
Thanks @Daren for the info!
@Chris_D9 not sure gaming the sytem would be a problem if gated behind something as difficult and non-shortcuttable like completing all the routes - and sometimes learning to game a system is sort of the point.
The problem as I see it is Zwift shouldn’t be “completable” - rather provide late-game content to keep players motivated. Difficult to achieve cosmetics and titles would help, and being able to reset route completion is an easy way to keep the carrot rather than leaving a sense that youve won the game.
Imo the best cosmetic reward for prestige woule be optional jersey arm trim - a la national and world championship stripes on jerseys
There is a veloviewer route leaderboard if you want to go ham on completion + performance.
The late game content at the moment is having 90% of races ruined by someone with a spin bike and a grudge.
I think it is fine to have a finite set of things to complete, finishing that itself is an achievement. But i’d like to see a 12 month rolling view too.
Level X overall and Level Y in the last 12 months.
the motivation then is to beat what you did this time last year to maintain your 12 month level.
cheaters will always cheat, if we just look at that then what’s the point in anything. May as well just focus on the game and hope that one day zwift will address the blatant cheating.
You could always create a new account to start over.
What happens when new routes are added? Someone starting today would have to do many more routes than someone who started 5, or 10, years ago.
I would think a prestige system would be tied to XP, and not routes (when you hit level 100 you can prestige and go back to level 1).
For routes I think they can go a few “routes”. They could have “seasons” so each season you need to complete all the routes currently available to get a season badge, or they can have tiers for each route (bronze, silver, gold, etc) for completing each route 1,3, 5 times etc. in a season if you get all routes to gold maybe you get something special. Like a jersey that shows how many times you’ve done the route you’re currently doing etc.
@SeattleSauve great ideas!
For prestige there could be 5 levels and each gives the next colour of world championship stripe arm trim:
Blue > red > black > yellow > green
So at prestige 5 youve got the complete wc trim
