Power unstability during free rides/events

Hello,
Since February 2024, I’ve been experiencing power transmission issues during free rides/events on Zwift. The power transmitted by the trainer is unstable (sudden variations of several dozen watts with a jerky pedaling sensation and an inability to maintain stable power, as if it were continuous slope changes: see spikes on attached graphs).
The problem appeared suddenly during a ride in February 2024 without any changes to the setup configuration or introduction of a new device that could cause interference in the immediate vicinity.
I’m currently using a Wahoo KickR V5 via Bluetooth with Zwift on a Windows PC (dedicated, up-to-date computer). Based on tests with Wahoo support, the trainer seems to be working fine, suggesting a problem between the trainer and the interpretation of the power data transmitted in Zwift.
The problem also occurs when using an Ant+ dongle (I was initially using Ant+ but switched to Bluetooth) and also seems to be present when using my old KickR V4 trainer.
Note that the game/trainer sometimes works normally for periods of a few days to a few weeks with good power correlations on double captures, but the problem always returns with no obvious cause.
I’ve already tried reinstalling Zwift, without success.
I don’t see any nearby interference sources that could disrupt the signal.
During these periods of malfunction, I can only use Zwift in training in ERG mode, monitoring a return to normal operation.
Have you ever seen this type of problem? Is it a computer issue or a source of interference that I can’t identify?
Let me know if you need any further information to identify the source of the problem…
Thank you very much for your help.
Mathieu

Are you sure the error is present with both the new and old trainer?
Would shutting down the game and start up again help?

I’ve actually had the same issue with HR data. That was a PC/Zwift issue.
It was a decent PC running win 10. (retired gaming PC)

Hello,
Thanks for your reply.
I also initially thought it was a computer glitch, as the problem occurred suddenly during the game for no apparent reason, as if something had gone wrong in the system. I had sought the advice of a computer expert, but the updates applied hadn’t resolved the issue.
Yesterday, the power was completely aberrant at the end of a workout in ERG mode, with this sensation of jerky pedaling like constant changes in slope (see first graph).
I had prepared to run new tests today (with the old trainer and trying Zwift on another computer I’ve never used for this), but the game is working normally again without any special intervention (see second and third graphs)…
I’ll run these tests as soon as the problem returns (unfortunately, it always ends up returning within a few days or weeks…) and will let you know then. Have you found the source of your heart rate problems on your computer?
Thank you very much.
Mathieu

I never quite got hold of what it was, but it seems stable now.
What happened was that HR all of a sudden did a 20-40 bpm jump…and stayed there

Knowing I can’t sustain very long with a HR way above my max, it was easily identified as an error, but never quite found out what it was.

Only happened on that PC. Not on my ipad and not laptop
