Power fluctuations in Kickr v6

Does anyone with a V6 experience this same issue? Since I got the v6 a few months ago, I noticed strange fluctuations in the reported power on flat terrain in Zwift. The dips are noticeable, and very consistent, every 5 seconds. You can see from this screenshot what I mean, the power graph I would expect to be much “spikier” and not smoothed out like this on a 5 second cycle. Note that power smoothing is turned OFF and this issue happens in 3 second avg and instant. I dont know that I am actually losing any power here, but given that if Im spinning very easy and consitently on flats at 100w, the power is waving between 60w and 150w, something isnt right.

Hi @Shane_O_Connor, welcome to the forums! I’m Francisco from Zwift Support.

It can be tricky when your Kickr v6 isn’t showing the power you expect based on how hard you’re working.

Here are a couple of things you can try to isolate the issue:

  1. Manual Spindown Calibration: Even though your Kickr v6 automatically performs a spindown calibration, running a manual calibration via the Wahoo Fitness app can sometimes stabilize its readings. This can help smooth out any discrepancies.

  2. Reset Game Preferences: Zwift sometimes holds onto cached data from previously paired sensors, which might affect your current readings. Resetting your game preferences can clear out that old data and make sure only your Kickr v6 is active.

I also noticed a BLE disconnection error in your log files from May 28, 2025, which might be contributing to the fluctuations. I recommend following the outlined steps in the linked article to help address that. Also, please double-check that no other sensors (like a cadence or speed sensor) are interfering with the data from your Kickr. So far, the firmware and game version have been updated.

Are you using virtual shifting? I had the same problem with my V6 when virtual shifting was turned on while using the Zwift Plays. Sometimes turning off/on VS would fix the problem. Other times a factory spindown would fix it. However, a couple months ago nothing I did would solve it, so I have since abandoned VS. Back to using the shifters on my bike, and my power graph is much smoother.

I recommend contacting Wahoo support. And check if firmware is 5.4.29

Thanks all, so I contacted Wahoo, who asked me to run some tests using the Wahoo app, turns out my trainer would not even modify resistance with Wahoos own app, so Wahoo are RMA’ing it as we speak, I should have a replacement in a few days.

This power oscillation is caused by using too easy of a physical gear. Wahoo recommends at least a 2.5:1 gear ratio as the minimum. FWIW the Zwift Ride is 3:1
