Please Help

I have been using Zwift, paired with my Stages SB20, for a couple of years now. For some reason, during any ride, I can no longer change gears (resistance). Outside of Zwift, the Stages app shows gear changes, and I feel the resistance. As soon as the game launches, I lose that ability. Everything is connected as usual. My power and cadence display correctly. I’m running Zwift version 1.0.157245 on a Samsung Tab S6 Lite. Everything is running the latest update, including my SB20. I’m at a loss; any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Can you post a picture of your pairing screen in Zwift? Have you made sure the trainer is disconnected from the Stages app before running Zwift? In general the best community support for the SB20 is on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/StagesBikeOwnersGroup/

You will find @C_raig_WAY2SLO there.

Looks like you have both ANT+ and Bluetooth pairing options available, and the bike supports both, so another option would be to click on the Resistance tile and choose whichever one you’re not currently using and see if it behaves differently.

Why is Resistance paired with Stages Bike 0066 whereas Power and Cadence is paired with Stages 22289 ?

Do you have option to click on Resistance and pair with another option, hopefully the Stages 22289 ?

Thats the only way I’ve ever been able to make it work correctly. Resistance has always been the SB20 and the power source and cadence has always had to be the left power meter. All of them have to be Bluetooth in order to stay connected. I’ve never had a problem until the last update. I just swapped the resistance to ANT+ but that didn’t work either. It’s all a little confusing to me but this setup has always worked until recent.

These are the only two options I get for resistance.

Ah ok I didn’t register that one was the bike and one a power meter.

You’re pairing it in the recommended way. Another option that might help you ride now would be to not pair anything for resistance. You would not have ERG mode or terrain simulation, but you should be able shift gears on the bike to adjust resistance. It’s not a great solution but maybe adequate to keep you going until you figure it out.

Does this sound like a bug with the latest update to you? I’m not sure i have any other options to try. I’ve tried on multiple devices. It works great when I use the Stages app so I feel like it has to be a software issue with Zwift. I guess I’ll just wait and try back later. Very frustrating…..

Craig’s pretty knowledgeable and had tested the fixes in 1.104.3 as mentioned below. Of course you may be on different Stages firmware than he is, or something else different about your equipment (not the bike). You already unplugged the bike at the wall right?

Yep, reset everything multiple times. If I deselect a resistance controller I still can’t change the resistance. My Stages app will show the gear changes but nothing happens. Zwift overrides the resistance and doesnt allow for it to change once the app is open.

If Zwift isn’t paired to the bike for resistance, it’s baffling why that would happen. My wife often uses the SB20 that way, not paired for resistance, and the game does nothing to affect her ability to shift. She did that this morning as well. No issues. You don’t have Zwift installed on a second device, right?

I downloaded onto my phone just to rule out tablet issues but have uninstalled it after having the same results.

I had wondered if there was a setting that got altered during an update. People mention having a virtual shifting option in their setting but I don’t see it in mine anywhere.

OK, I managed to get Zwift to work without having a resistance controller selected. Once you select something for resistance it won’t work if you unselect it, I didn’t relaize that. In other words, when you launch the Zwift app you can’t try to select anything for resistance or it won’t work. You can only select power source and cadence. I guess that’s all I can do at this point in order to use Zwift.

I know that’s what you suggested earlier but I had already selected the bike and it wasn’t coming back off of it when I deselected it. Thanks for the help.

The SB20 does not support Zwift virtual shifting so it’s expected you will not see that setting.

OK, thanks. I’ve read so many forums, my head is hurting. Guess this is my sign to get outside and ride.

There is a setting in the Stages app under the ride button. It says, “ Select the Stages Bike control” where you select external control. I wonder if that has been inadvertently set wrong.

David, you are the man. I’ve never seen that setting before. I only use the Stages App to update firmware. I’ve always had Zwift, so I have never had the need to use Stages to record a ride. I’m moving on Zwift again, but the resistance responsiveness is really slow and sporadic. I need to find the recommended Stages App setting for use with Zwift and verify that everything else is correct.
