PAS / Gravel Mountain Stage broken

Great news Mark. Even if I personally really enjoyed the expirience, I had the nost fun on Zwift for years :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes::ok_hand:

From one Steve to another, no. I’m in a recovery block so I’m doing it Sat or Sun. Was def looking forward to a non-warp speed version of it

This comment feels exactly along the lines of what’s happened/happening with the Tune Up feature as well.

The speeds in Zwift are already … quite extreme. Who thinks we need to be going even faster? Even if just in a visual sense.

This was mentioned recently in another thread along the lines of that Zwift doesn’t really have great sight lines at distance, so the sense of reaching a far off place doesn’t really exist as it stands.

Keep working on arcade features, worlds, and interactive stuff.
On/Off triggers for “more speed” should sound ridiculous, because it is; and certainly isn’t on any BINGO card I’ve seen once again of features anyone that rides Zwift has ever once asked for.

I don’t approve of this switcheroo of stage one at all. I reckon ~50%+ riders who wanted to race it for the series had ridden it by 1800 BST on 7th April and now you want us racers to fit in a replacement route.

And let’s talk about the replacements for stages one and four… Why are they so unimaginative and both use variations of essentially the same route, Jungle Circuit and Serpentine 8? Really?!

What was wrong with using another route with dirt/gravel such as…
Kappa Quest
Kappa Quest Reverse
Spirit Forest
Mech Isle
Sea To Tree
Valley To Mountaintop
City And the Sgurr
etc.
?

My coping strategy is to do something else because this doesn’t appeal to me. It’s a good option

Will you just go back to having it be a 5km ish course. What was the big push for gps compression? We already have plenty of crit length courses, was the community clamoring for a dirt based crit circuit?

We are taking in all the feedback and we’ll consider it when we bring Gravel Mountain back.

There’s been a lot of conversation around other gravel routes on Zwift for example #pavethejungle over the last several years. So as we often do this time of year, we are trying new things - in this case, around gravel and dirt within Zwift.

How about roping in the largest club event leaders like ZHQ said they would do last year in Mallorca…

For once it seemed like Zwift was going to listen to the community; but we’re right back where we started it seems.

ZHQ making absurd choices I’ve never once heard asked for in my now half decade of using the platform (which hurts to say enough as it is).

I’ve literally never… ever heard anyone say “I wish we went faster”… but it once again proves how disconnected this decision making is from the actual user base and community.

You should take this back to the next meeting and asked what happened to the plan after Mallorca last year with club leaders being looped into decisions.

Andrew I’m glad to do a call with you and hear your feedback. Apologies if it’s been missed. feel free to DM me to coordinate.

We just got back from Zwift Community Live again this year and hosted a very nice robust session on racing with some of the largest groups. it was a very productive conversation.

This thread is me acknowledging that we didn’t get it all right.

I know when I’ve said Pave the Jungle I meant it as a joke. The game is consistently paced, albeit faster than likely outdoors. People get used to it. Add resistance on the jungle, people complain. Show they a really fast event people complain. Mess with speed in draft/pack dynamics people complain. Give faster bikes via upgrades… people complain.

If you want a silly sped up event mode - great, test it… but set expectations that it will be sped up, test it with groups to make sure the experience is worth it. Boost mode crit city is pretty close to working as a different (not for everyone) event experience. It would be great to tweak that.

What I think frustrates me here though is that you are listening to fringe complaints about slow gravel and creating new game modes… but not listening to the (probably fringe) race community about cheating in races and bots that will trash the experience on events. These will ruin the experience whatever mode you put out anyway.

Crediting of stage progress was completed overnight for those who did not receive it.

We’ll also be crediting riders with the missing 1,000 XP. This will probably happen at some stage today.

Thanks. I can see my classification on red rock loop.(overall and stage 1).

Does it mean the ranking for stage 1 will differ depending on what route we made it. And what if we race on red rock loop AND Jungle circuit, which one will be choosed for the leaderboard ?

And my « league best » information is not displayed (15s, 1min, 5 min, 20 min).

Thanks

We’re looking to see if we can invalidate times on RedRock to make the GC less “odd” but the stage we changed to is shorter, so those doing the new route (for 6 days out of 7) should show at the top of the GC rather than a route that the majority can’t complete.

Not sure on the league best information I’m afraid.

I really enjoyed the Red Rock Loop route. I was planning on doing it again when I got back in from work yesterday. But to my dismay when looking at upcoming events, it had changed to Jungle Circuit.

I liked the new concept of how it was implemented. And wanted to do it again. Even 9 + laps from Monday was fun. I’m hoping it is not changed too much.

Hi Mark,

I wanted to clarify that my initial post was done thinking there was something wrong with the game when you guys launched it. I was watching the first race with the advanced category via YouTube and thought, this can’t be right.

Just wanted to acknowledge that I know a lot of people work very hard on this product. Appreciate you guys coming into this thread and commenting. I’m sure you saw some of the YouTube feedback as well. It’s always good to take risks and in this case perhaps it would have been better as others have commented to get some feedback ahead of time from a subset of insiders. Another suggestion was to alert folks to what they were about to get exposed to.

Whatever the case, the map itself is absolutely gorgeous and I hope we are able to see it used soon.

Steve

It’s no doubt been written before, but can’t we get custom surface selection by event organisers for some smaller routes?

For example, a dirt/gravel option of…
Glasgow Crit and the reverse
Downtown Dolphin and the reverse
Dirt/gravel replacing the sand (tarmac) section of Mech Isle
La Guardia and the reverse
Duchy Estate
Queens Highway
etc.

While I’m sure some would love to race Jungle Circuit on tarmac again.

What would be the purpose of this?

To make gravel racing and MTB racing far less of a token gesture in Zwift.

I will absolutely take you up on this offer, and will collect from some other leaders and try to condense things so it doesn’t turn into squirrel brain lists a mile long.

@Steve_Cl meanwhile taking up ideas from Bristol Motor Speedway
Let there be dirt! It’s actually kind of a hilarious option some ways into the future.

Dirt Crit City??? why not.

My Companion App card has been updated to show 1/4.
I don’t know if the XP was credited or not, I am not near my Zwift computer.
