New Routes Have Come to Paris!

The streets of Paris just got a whole lot bigger.

Whether you’re chasing KOMs, sprinting through the city, or simply soaking in the scenery, there’s something new waiting around every corner. :sparkles:

Two 40+ mile route badges.
That’s harsh…

Cirque du Suffer is a hilarious addition and I’m here for it.
Now to see if we can safely use it for hour long group rides…

I hope we see greater expansion though, shame we didn’t get a loop around the Louvre for example, just a one block addition.

I can appreciate the number of routes though for such a small area that’s been added. Though I wish a few more were added that didn’t include Montmartre to keep the climbing down a touch for improved group rides.

I sure hope there is a lap counter.

I wouldn’t expect there to be one, much like the Jarvis’ Deca Dash; just due to the way Zwift captures laps. This isn’t actually doing laps.

I imagine the profile of the route is uphill, then a ton of flat, then a downhill; and without any segments to make the “laps” visible like DecaDash, it’s just a long flat line until the end.

Good point about the Deca Dash.

ZI says it’s point to point. Start/finish appear to be approximately the same place…would be a wonderful lappable route and I hope ZI is wrong.

Some of the point to point routes right now are actually good routes; but one like this yeah, will have to test it and find out what happens.

Would be a shame if it ends up looping around Montmartre after finishing :joy:

Our internal documentation says that this route does not lap.

If Watopia or Makuri doesn’t get a significant update I don’t think I will continue my subscription. Honestly I don’t care about a few km of new roads in a dull dreary world I only ride to collect the badges! Zwift needs long flat routes in Watopia, it needs long routes with loads of climbing, it needs new big climbs, not more Paris or NY!

I’m sure the Strava section will be broken for that crazy route.

There’s some easy pickings too that ZHQ doesn’t seem totally interested in for some reason.
Bologna for example you could add less than 1km to it and give us a looping flat-ish route and make it a public world, which is massive in return to the community for so little effort.

Side roads in NYC blocks, Bologna, London, and Richmond could add quite a decent amount of fresh life to these worlds without an excessive amount of work.

NY was a good expansion but lacks the flatter roads the community is constantly asking for; and/or better route options that are flatter.

The designers at ZHQ building these worlds are doing great work, but with only one road through all of these new areas, they’re missing a bigger punch they could have.

ie: expansion of Urukazi in Makuri has, we’ll call it 5ish biomes: north entry, bat cave, mech isle, shisa, tidepool region.

Every single one of those biomes are unique in design top to bottom; yet they only offer one road… that’s a massive amount of work to design unique areas and only provide one way to see each area; granted I think all of Zwift kind of suffers with this “flaw.”

It would be little effort to have roads that snake around regions we already have, and essentially double the surfaces and way we can see things. Imagine Coastal Road expansion, if another side road ran alongside and had a few intersections… it’s the same region, but you could literally double the riding surface for so little effort.

TL:DR, Zwift’s unique biomes are wonderful, but suffer because they generally only offer 1 road per unique region. Lots of cross-roads and side-roads could bring a ton of life, without adding much design labor.

And also as always can be stated that fresh / new routes could/should be added every update, which is what keeps things extremely stale.

There’s no reason why we shouldn’t be getting 1 new route from existing roads every month.

son of a :joy:

There is a memory consideration here. There isn’t a massive amount more we can do to Watopia without increasing minimum device requirements.

The Zwift roads are wider than real life. They did a great job bringing this route to life.

Whaaa, no way you can totally fit 10 riders wide going up Legsnapper!

those that don’t get the joke, this is the entryway to legsnapper IRL:

For the record, I find it insane the speed limit is 30kph

Closest we’ve got to a velodrome yet. If you don’t count getting caught in the roundabout at the bottom of oh no hill.

True, but not if they are real life routes otherwise folks will not be able to ride the IRL version.

I think Innsbruck and France are good candidates for big expansions. France would be logical to expand it to cover the old Haute Route Ventoux 3 day event from real life. We have Ventoux already, so part of that is done.

Then Innsbruck, give people the real “leg snapper” which is much much steeper. And then expand out further past Innsbruck airport (flat fast roads) and for climbs, the surrounding hills like Reith bei Seefeld, Timmelsjoch, Kuhtai, etc.
