FWIW The GPS in Prospect Park feels accurate to me as bum Brooklynite. (Though the the interior landscape and elevation of the park itself beside the road seems visually simplified in a way that makes it less lush and woodland. Probably harder to render that stuff.)
Please no. Out of the ~dozen worlds in Zwift, NY is the very last one I want them to put any more effort/resources into, the next to last on the list to Makuri Islands and Neokyo. Trying to get too cute with cities and random beaches.
Italy, Watopia, France, Richmond are all areas that I would love more development of really world inclusions. Or even Hawaii, Colombia, Rwanda, etc. would all be potentially incredible additions to the game.
Belgium or the Netherlands. There was a map of Switzerland but it got cancelled when the World Championships were cancelled (Covid) and later held in Italy.
I tend to choose the real worlds or at least real climbs (even if not in real colors).
The expansion you had suggested, having Col de Sarenne, also Col du Galibier, Col du Lautaret (the easier alternative to Galibier) and perhaps a virtual Valloire town with some roads and a little criterium course. On the other side of it, the Col du Telegraphe, the other famous climb (also easier) and beyond that, the town of Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne.
That would be epic - and you could do some pretty huge Gran-Fondo routes with minimal loops, all point-to-point rides, and they all match up with Alpe du Zwift (which is Alpe d’Huez). None of the other virtual cycling apps would have anything to match it. Even better if the scenery was very realistic (which IRL is stunning).
I can hear the cries of noooo - make it a climb portal instead already. Given all the flat routes of recent, it’s about time for some new HC climbs that are not shoved into portals with no scenery.
That’s not too far off the route for L’Etape Du Tour this year - Crox De Fer, Telegraph/Galibier, and Col de Sarrene (Loop from Bourg D’Oisans to Huez finish). The thing is, those styles of routes are awesome outside, but probably not as fun to suffer around on the indoor trainer for like 8 or more hours for normal humans! Having the individual climbs in game (not just as climb portals) would still be great though.
People suffer for 5 hours or so on PRL Full doing laps of the same thing, or worse, Deca Dash which is shorter but still dreadfully monotonous. So bring on the new challenges.
I hit them twice with controlled speed and no pedaling. (69.3kg, 180cm rider)
I hit the first one at 7KPH coasting, and went right to 28KPH all the way to the top
I hit the second one at 30KPH costing, and held that all the way to the top
So, I’d guess that the escalator speed is 28-30KPH
I’d like to see that in Zwift. It’d mean I could finally ride the route we intended to back in 2018, when we planned to do the Sarenne, but missed a turning, got lost, gave up and went up Huez again instead.
Wouldn’t they just be any other climb portal? The interesting part of gravel routes would be not riding on asphalt. Like the Makuri Islandss Temple KOM, no?
After finally starting my indoor season and doing a couple of rides on the new roads, my verdict is “it is what it is”. The Prospect Park section is probably the only part I might keep riding once all the route badges are done.
