Done the plan, no issues. Win10/Kickr.
I’m not really understanding the ERG mode either. When cycling with this mode on, I don’t really feel any resistance on my Wahoo Kickr Core. When the grade changes, I might feel an ever so slight change at first, but if feels like it backs off. When cycling to a new wattage requirement, I can literally stay in the same gear, pedaling the same cadence and the wattage will rise to the required wattage and I feel no difference. I’m not sure if that’s the way ERG mode works or not so could someone please explain it. What I’ve read is I should be feeling some resistance.
I can do a “Just Ride” and painfully feel every hill that I get to, but for workouts and plans that ERG mode is on, it’s really no challenge at all. I’ve switched off on the companion and I find it hard to keep in the threshold required. I’ve messed with the incline and the bias percentage too.
I’m really enjoying the app and my trainer. I’m about a month in, but the Workouts really have no challenge to them as I can pedal in the highest or lowest gear and somehow I can always magically get in the target range no matter what I do. I feel like there should be some resistance.
Sounds like things are working as they should.
When doing workouts where there are set wattage requirements, the in Zwift terrain/gradient makes no difference. The only thing that matters is the wattage. As such, Zwift will adjust the resistance to ensure you are meeting the target power. You can increase your cadence and Zwift will decrease the resistance to meet the power target. You can decrease your cadence and Zwift will increase the resistance to meet the power target. You do not have to change gears. You only need pedal (ideally at a constant cadence) and ERG mode will take care of the rest. This is ERG mode.
If you are free riding in Zwift, then there is no ERG mode. When you hit a gradient or hill, resistance will go up. You will need to push more power and/or change gears as you would when riding outside.
