New Map Idea: Boston

Just giving suggestions, but what if we had Boston as a map on Zwift. I got this idea partially because I did a row on EXR there and thought this would be a cool map to run and cycle in on Zwift. Also it would be cool to virtually run races like the Boston Marathon maybe people just to get a feel of the course and what to expect or just run it for fun. Also thought of this idea because Zwift already has New York, Paris, and London and I thought some other real life Major Cities/courses would be cool (LA, Seattle, etc.)

Want a challenging route, Jasper/Banff Canada

It’s not the fact of challenges that I was quite going for in this request (although I do like them). I was just giving another big city map idea that be cool to have in Zwift.

It’s not super high on my list (I live nearby and have ridden on the Marathon course many, many times), but a “big famous marathon” course would be a great addition in general – add the whole marathon, and then add a little loop (for Boston that’d probably just be a lollipop on one end, either in the city or out in the countryside, or both) to give an easy option for 1/4 of the length of an iron-distance triathlon, and then they could run iron-length tri events on the course in Zwift – four lengths of the marathon (out and back for Boston, for a looped course alternate directions for variety) and then run the length in the traditional direction. Kona probably makes the most sense, but Zwift already has a lot of beachy scenery.

For the record, the Boston Marathon course in the traditional direction is a really easy ride – the famous rolling hills are a coast-down-and-almost-reach-the-next-crest delight, the course is WAY more downhill than up, etc. Except that 95% of the time it’s packed with cars. (The pre-marathon midnight ride is an absolute blast, though, and definitely if it was a Zwift route I’d vote it needs night/day on.) There are some deeply boring bits, though, unless they Zwiftified it a lot – suburban strip malls and parking lots, and less ugly but just residential sections with house after house. But those could be “enhanced”. And Mount Washington could get a relocate from NH and get attached to one end.

Sydney.

With close passes from trucks and utes with passenger shouting from the window “geroff the road” among other obscenities.

Maybe it’s different for runners but one of the big reasons for me to switch from Rouvy to Zwift was that Zwift is (mostly) not modelled after the real world. I don’t want to ride epic routes first on Zwift but rather let myself be surprised. Fortunately I had already done Alpe d’Huez irl before I joined Zwift
