New issue using companion app

I’ve been having a recent issue with my phone turning off while using the companion app while Zwifting

This never used to happen before and has only been doing it recently

I haven’t done anything (knowingly) to my phone settings and I don’t recall the companion app having any recent updates so I’m at a loss to what is going on

Anyone have any ideas I can check/try out?

Thanks

What phone type, which phone OS?

Was the phone overheating at all?

Has the phone got enough free storage space, maybe something else in the background caused the phone to shut down. Does this shutdown only occur while using the Companion App?

Could be a faulty phone battery which can cause shutdown under load even if charged. Is it plugged in when that happens?

Sorry for not providing more details…

It’s an LG G8 ThinQ running Android. It sits in a holder on the stem of my bike and is never plugged in while I use it Zwifting

I can use it constantly with no overheating and zero issues except when using the companion app

128 GB of space with only 56 GB used

I should have reworded “shuts off” differently… It goes black, like sleep mode or something like that … The music I listen to using the same phone continues to play… It seems to be kind of like not using your computer for a while and it goes to sleep

I hope this added info helps

Thinking about it I recall when I use my treadmill with Zwift (minimum of an hour) I don’t think I have this issue

Tomorrow is my treadmill day so I’ll make sure to keep track of what it does

Can you get it to respond to anything when this happens, such as returning to the main screen, switching to other apps for instance

I recommend testing it with the phone plugged in to power. Normally when the Companion app is in the foreground, the phone will not sleep. If it’s not in the foreground, the phone can go to sleep according to the device settings.

So after I notice it has gone black I need to double tap and sign back in … The companion app is still where I left it but it has to find and recentre me (it looks like it stops tracking me on the map when it goes dark)

FYI, the route it went black on was Temple Trek

Going for a run a few hours from now so I’ll report back later

I can test it plugged in but even if that works the question in my mind is why/what changed requiring me to do that?

I think I mentioned it before but it’s only been doing this in the last few weeks

If that helps then my guess is it’s battery age. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves… I don’t know if that will help, it’s just an easy thing to try.

Ok, just finished my stroll through New York and had an hour to think about things…

Here’s the proverbial poop I’m going to throw against the wall. Let’s see if it sticks…

Monday and Wednesday… Pacer ride and run

World… Packed

Therefore… High(ish) processing power and data upload/download to track the population

Issues … None

Tuesday… Ride temple trek

World… Desolate

Therefore… Little use of processor and data because there’s no one to track

Issues… Phone went to sleep twice (didn’t wake it after the second time)

Well? What do you think? I’m guessing the phone thinks nothing is going on and zzzzzzzz
