New Course Suggestion - the 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Some primary colours and Japanese symbols?
No commercial gain by RGT and events that have already occurred. Would be a PR disaster for the IOC.

It does explicitly mention the games throughout though, which is an association. The courses would be fine I’m sure, but I bet they’d get a threatening letter/email if the IOC saw that page.

Throughout is a stretch. It mentions Olympics once “inspired by”

Multiple uses of the name Olympics, which is copyrighted. They use it to get people on the platform, which would be deemed commercially beneficial to them. Nobody would give a damn from a PR perspective, IOC have gone after much smaller fish for much less in the past. Don’t get me wrong the IOC copyright rules are BS and they really are idiots with the way they go after anyone and everyone for any sort of mention, I’m just saying that if spotted RGT will be in hot water whether we agree with it or not.

I think I will only use “the O word” from now on.

Am I being blind? It says Olympics once.

5 times and a design at the top of the page they’d argue was inspired by Olympic symbols with the coloured circles. Yes it’s BS but it’s all copyrighted and militantly enforced.

I really must be blind. Even doing a find “Olympics” only shows one mention.

And as has been mentioned, it’s not RGT running it, it’s a community event. RGT are actually very careful about infringements so I’m sure they’ve vetted it anyway.

You should check out the races though. Super fun.

Your search is broken.

I’m normally pretty good at spot the difference.

To be honest it’s probably what that want! Think it was the last Olympics where there was crackdown on athletes sponsors using the term Olympics to wish their athletes good luck, unless their sponsors were official Olympics sponsors. https://www.natlawreview.com/article/mum-s-word-olympics-content-to-avoid-infringement

Ok I was a bit blind. (And Apple search is crap) but I can’t see how “women’s Olympic road race course” is a breach of copyright or IP, otherwise every press article reporting on the event is in breach too.

Anyway enough about RGT, isn’t this a Zwift forum? Shouldn’t we be talking about bugs?

Point being they are using either the full course or parts of the course that Zwift have chosen not to deploy at this time.

Fuji or the tough Pass they rode might make the Makuri world worth choosing.

Does make me laugh, all the route requests on this forum and Facebook. People don’t want to ride those routes for the scenery, you can just do that on street view. They want to experience the road, the turns, the gradients. Granted the scenery makes it more interesting to ride but if you’re in a race, you’re not paying much attention to the scenery anyway.

Shows how small RGT are if even the IOC wont go after them, and they go after everybody!
Most people don’t race or climb, preferring the flatter, rolling routes, hence the design of France or Makuri Island and why the Desert routes are always the most crowded, not everyone is 50kg on Zwift.
I like riding Makuri Island because it has great scenery, it’s worth an extra lap at least, same for Titans Grove or the Mayan Jungle (before they ruined the rolling resistance - no pun intended!).
We actually have a decent mix of routes, doesn’t stop us wanting more and I would ride Mount Fuji at least twice!

Why would they it is routes created by users. There is a difference between a platform making and branding something and users creating some road.

So Zwift should spend months creating something to be ridden twice?

I would rather have Zwift spend time making riding more interesting than creating another road. After a few rides on a new road it is just another Zwift ride. Zwift needs to find a way to get people engaged on the road.

Sorry @Gerrie_Delport_ODZ that wasn’t my point, to clarify I’m not a climber and would rather see a number of rolling 25 & 50km routes that I would absolutely ride for hours at a time 7 days a week, but the 1.5m/50kg climbers need new routes as well.
Now it could be argued that between Epic KOM, AdeZ, Ventoux they have enough routes, which were expensive to create and are under used vs the flatter/ punchier routes, but then maybe I should climb more

You could ride Mount Fuji on RGT but maybe it’s too small for you?

It could expand some of the worlds like Innsbruck where there are some easy wins to add more roads. It is missing this one:

Also missing is the nearby climb going on Höhenstraße as well which is not too steep. They aren’t massive long climbs.

I realise those won’t be popular with many, particularly not Höttinger Höll. But they are probably quicker to do than a huge mountain climb. And they form a loop.

In a previous time I used to do game development (3D and textures) before I decided to get fit…

There is an intersting point about the UCI worlds in general, maybe London (PRL) and Paris (TdeF) in that they were created “whole”, so possibly come with contractual limitations.
New York is like the forgotton child, hoping that France doesn’t join it and gets some new roads like Makuri should be getting in Q3 & Q4.
Titans Grove KOM Reverse is my kind of climb, 800m of going deep into the red, I do have a soft spot for Epic KOM reverse and have done AdeZ a whole 14 times (in 2.5yrs, actually eyeing the x25 badge now  )
My original point (badly made by me) was that Makuri Island needs it’s iconic climb, it’s losely based on an area to the east where the climb begins, yes I might only go up a couple of times (unless it gets a set of badges), but cycling is a broad discipline and climbs are a part of that, Zwift will know this and also where people ride (mostly on the flatter bits).
Zwift are also mixing up the 2nd/ 3rd world order likely to see if that affects selection.
