Mounting Zwift Cog V2 on Zwift Hub One

Hello everyone,
I just received my “Zwift Cog and Click Upgrade Kit – Multi Trainer Zwift Cog” and wanted to replace the old Cog V1 on my “Zwift Hub One”. However, the freehub doesn’t seem to fit properly. I can insert it (with the new spacers that came with it), but somehow it doesn’t lock in correctly—or maybe the freehub is defective, since it doesn’t “free spin.” Instead of the freehub spinning freely, the flywheel turns when I rotate it in that direction.

When I put the old Cog V1 back on, everything works perfectly.
So, do I need to install the freehub from the Cog V1 into the Cog V2?

Best regards

Hello @Marcel22 welcome to Zwift forums!

Shuji at Zwift HQ here. Thank you for including the image - that is always helpful

Question 1: The Zwift Cog v2 has an adjuster to set the cog’s side-to-side position. The indicator has a little window that should show it’s in position #1 during installation. Is it set to #1?

Question 2: The entire Cog + freehub body assembly should slide inward a little bit futher than what your image is showing. I am curious how many spacers in total are in place inside the trainer? There’s a helpful how-to video on this support page for reference about the spacers.

I asked one of our Zwift Shop experts to confirm you were shipped a Zwift Cog with the correct freehub body for the Zwift Hub trainer, so it feels like the two issues above are what’s getting in the way. Would you let us know which one solves it?

Hi @shooj,

thanks for your reply.

Question 1: Yes, the adjuster is set to #1

Question 2: I removed the old spacer and inserted the new one that came with the kit. There’s nothing else there. Or am I overlooking something?

I also tried installing it without the spacer to see if it would go in further. But that made no difference.

Zwift Support suggested swapping the freewheel bodies of Cog V1 and V2. Now it works.
When I order an upgrade kit called “Zwift Cog and Click Upgrade Kit - Muli Trainer Zwift Cog - Compatibility: Zwift / Hub,” as a customer, I expect a plug-and-play solution, not a DIY fix that requires special tools.
But anyway, it works now.

There have been some cases where people received the wrong freehub. I’m unsure if that’s the problem here.

Hello Marcel, I just had the exact same issue with a brand new Wahoo trainer and a brand new Zwift Cog 2. With some force I got the freehub onto the trainer but it would not freely rotate as per normal design. I removed it and then couldn’t get it reinstalled. I fear I was given the wrong freehub and may have inadvertently damaged the ratchet on the trainer. Sounds like a common issue when searching for advice online. I removed the cog 2 from the Zwift supplied freehub and installed a shimano version, using the lockring from a shimano cassette. No issues at all and installed first time, with minimal effort. Very worried I have caused damage to the trainer. Time will tell. Help has been frustratingly slow and doesn’t seem good at all that I was supplied wrong one, or one with such poor tolerance it can cause issues. Will update in a few weeks, hopefully with no further issues.
