Minimum ride length

I recently completed a 32 min inside and out workout on a route that was basically completely uphill and i only completed 1.8km during the 32 minute workout. My ride did not upload and I was told by support that a ride has to be 2km minimum to upload. So I got no credit for the workout. I feel that when you complete a workout, you should not have to complete a minimum length in order to get credit - completion of the workout should be the priority for uploading, not the length of the ride. I agree with a normal ride having to be a minimum length but not a workout, unless the workout is always on a specific route. If you have a choice on your route for the workout, you shouldn’t be penalized because of the length not being long enough. Would love to here how the zwift community feels. Tks

Something doesn’t seem right. I can’t believe that your avatar only went 1.8km. (maybe if you were only putting out 1 watt). But seriously, something seems wrong. Maybe do the workout again, but on a flat route, see how for you go this time. Sorry I’m not any help.
But to answer your question. If you did a half hour workout, it should count. Regardless how far you traveled

Doug,

I am recovering from hip and knee replacement and my power level is between 80-100w with cadence at 65-70 after significant time off.

I did the 2nd workout on inside out this past Monday and selected a route in France that I had not completed. Did not pay attention to the vertical climb number but when I started the workout it was at 6% and in the 32 min ride got up over 10% but never less than 7%. So speed was very very slow but I was more concerned about the workout and not the distance.

When the workout did not upload, I contacted support and was told a ride has to be at least 2.0km to upload regardless of time. I thought that was not right since I could choose any route for an individual workout and the one I chose unfortunately was completely uphill and my leg strength did not allow much over 4kph speed during the workout.

I did the workout yesterday but on a different flatter route and went about 13km during the workout and that uploaded with no.problem.

Support suggested I put my concern about the distance requirement on the forum to get other opinions from the zwift community and it will catch the attention if the development teams for a possible change.

Thanks for your interest

Dan

You got pretty unlucky on course selection since most routes (even climbing routes) don’t start with 2km of super steep uphill. France has a couple routes like that because the Ventoux climb starts immediately etc.

I think in an ideal world the restriction for determining what a minimum ride would be “x amount of time pedaling” instead of a certain number of kilometers. Now that you know it’s 2km there are really only a couple of routes you need to avoid to run into the same problem again, so hopefully in the short term this won’t be an issue for you while you recover.

Hi @Dan_Sturgeon

Shuji at Zwift HQ here. Thanks for bringing your question to our community forum. We were recently discussing the pros and cons of adjusting the minimum activity requirement. We might implement something that would avoid your frustrating experience with the 2km minimum ride distance.

Adding a minimum duration as an alternative (say, anything longer than 10 or 15 min will get uploaded independent of the distance) would be an easy way to address this…
