Hmm. Mine doesn’t seem to matter based on cadence. Just in a higher gear. Maybe it needs to be broken in a little. I’m also pretty new to smart trainers. How different should it feel compared to actually on the road? I feel like I’m getting some added resistance but that could be a mental thing because of the vibrations.
I always feel like it’s a bit harder to put out power on the trainer when I first go back to riding more in the offseason. I think some of it is just mental combined with slightly different bike fit, etc.
The 4.9 firmware was reading about 20w lower than my crank based power meter, so that definitely was noticeable. The 4.12 firmware seems to have fixed that issue and now I’m within about 5w which is perfectly fine.
The vibration is not normal. I have a TACX Neo 2T and the only time I feel this type of vibration is from the intentional road feel feature. Otherwise, it’s quite a bit smoother than the Victory.
You will always have a tiny amount of vibration from the drivetrain, which I’ve heard is worse for SRAM flat top chains on the Zwift Cog.
Update from JetBlack support saying that 4.12.9 only works with iOS devices, this explains why it is crashing on Android devices.
He also informed me that they plan to deploy a new “general release” on Saturday.
Interesting. I got 4.12.9 to upload from my lenovo tablet (android). Also, this might be just coincidental, but the JB app doesn’t seem to work consistently on my Pixel 6a phone. I think it’s a bluetooth thing.
4.12.9 is working with no major issues with cadence or wifi. Did anyone else notice virtual shifting profiles in the Zwift options? I don’t remember seeing that before. I use play controllers.
“sorry the App developers are working on this. Only a problem with new Androids running 14 or later. We should have a resolution in the next day .If you have access to an older android or ios device this will work. Saying that we will have a new updated early next week that resolves your issue. 4.12 will not do this.”
I’ve just managed to update to 4.12.9 by using my daughter’s ipad. I’ll test it out tonight and will dual record to see how accurate the power data is in this update.
Oh interesting! I need to check the shift profiles myself. I thought they were reserved for the zwift ride owners. Would be great if play controllers got it now.
I did too. I’m not sure if the shift profiles are from the 4.12.9 firmware or from the Zwift patch 1.81. I really like the option to go to a 2x12 and use sram style shifting since that is what I have on my roadbike.
The default has been the sram style, no? Left side goes down, right side goes up, one gear at a time. I prefer shimano style, but you need two buttons per side (one for going up and one for down) for that. Is that an option?
Just to clarify, the sudden appearance of options to customize virtual shifting seems to be part of the latest Zwift update, not the JetBlack one.
I’m still on JB 4.9 but can now see Zwift settings for how I want virtual shifting to work (sequential or SRAM) and whether 1-by or various 2-by ranges. So its Zwift 8.1.32 that made the change afaik.
Experienced my first disconnect today, but fortunately before starting to ride. The only thing I did different from normal was get distracted for half-an-hour after turning on the trainer and before trying to connect it to Zwift on PC. That longer delay than the usual 5-10 minutes was seemingly enough for the JetBlack WiFi to have gone to sleep and force me to switch the pairing to Bluetooth.
I’m really afraid this is a mistake by Zwift and something they will “fix” soon. This is a heavily requested feature and they made zero mention of it in the release notes other than a bug fix:
“Fixed an issue where Zwift Play and Zwift Click could inherit an unsupported shifting style when Zwift Ride was used previously”
I’m going to not get too comfortable on the other styles although we do get to see that it works perfectly fine with play controllers at least.
That’s the one Mitch. New general release to come more than likely on Monday. JB support said the new general release will install over any preview version.
