Indoor Outdoor Challenge [July 2026]

The First ‘Indoor Outdoor Challenge’ is Here

This summer, every kilometer counts.Indoors or Outdoors.

From July 1 @ 15:00 UTC through September 30 @ 04:59 UTC, we’re challenging the Zwifters to go the distance with the Indoor Outdoor Challenge. Your mission? Complete 1,000 km however you want—on Zwift, outside, or with the ultimate indoor/outdoor combo.

Whether you’re squeezing in sunrise coffee rides, chasing weekend adventures, logging lunchtime runs, or knocking out intervals in Watopia, every eligible kilometer gets you closer to your next reward.

:person_biking: One Challenge. Endless Ways to Participate.

The best part? You don’t have to choose between indoors and outdoors.

Your progress can come from:

  • :person_biking: Zwift rides

  • :person_running: Zwift runs

  • :sun: Eligible outdoor rides and runs synced from Garmin, Wahoo, or Hammerhead

  • Or any combination of the above

:wrapped_gift: Rewards Worth Chasing

The farther you go, the more you unlock.

  • 250 km – 100,000 Drops

  • 500 km – An exclusive cap + 20% off Maurten products

  • 750 km – 5,000 XP

  • 1,000 km – An exclusive in-game kit, another 20% off Maurten products, and an entry for a chance to win an unforgettable trip to L’Étape du Tour de France 2027, including airfare and lodging (plus a $100 Maurten gift card where eligible). Fuel with Maurten

Throughout the challenge, Maurten will give you fueling tips to ensure you prepare properly for your long efforts and you tackle recovery like a pro. Maurten is also offering all Zwifters access to the beta version of the Maurten Fuel Planner. With this tool, you can input your ride or run and receive the ideal fueling recommendation for you. It’s like having a nutritionist on speed dial and worth taking advantage of.

Before You Roll

A few quick tips before you head out:

  • Connect your Garmin, Wahoo, or Hammerhead account so your outdoor activities count.

    • If you’re not seeing your progress, just unlink and relink your Garmin, Wahoo or Hammerhead account to get that sync refreshed.
  • Update to the latest version of Zwift for the best tracking experience.

  • You can keep an eye on your progress right on the Zwift homescreen or in the Zwift Companion app.

  • You’ll be automatically enrolled when you log in as an active subscriber on or after July 1.

This offer is not valid for those runners who use Suunto or Coros watches, without having to connect their accounts through a different system, just to reach Zwift.

would’ve been nice to know this in advance, I went on a ride outside this morning at 5am, over 9 hours ago, and it is not counting towards the challenge

Same here. Was out this afternoon in France while on vcation and it didnt count also and it is for sure July 1st here.

funny thing about calendars… if you are going to start something on the 1st of the month, don’t wait until half way through the day to alert your users, especially if they have to log into the game first for it to count, could’ve done that yesterday and then today wouldn’t be an issue…

I would assume that the 5,000 XP gets applied to whatever type of activity (ride or run) was being done when the 750km was reached?
Or do you get 5,000 XP for both ride and run?

If I hit 250 km on a run, are the drops still applied? Runs don’t have drops.

Details that should be in the announcement.

I’ve no intention of doing the majority of this challenge through running (so this is fairly moot), but there’s currently no way to see your current progress when zwift is switched to running - as there are no challenge tiles on the home screen in running mode.

Though switching to cycling from the menu and skipping the pairing screen did allow me to check my progress from there.

Wait what ?

@Peter_Twigt you have to log in first to be enrolled in the challenge

So every kilometer I do here on vacation doesnt count eventhough they are shown in the Companion App ?

That sucks …

So really is not an indoor/outdoor challenge, as you just complete it all on Zwift from the understanding outlined at the beginning? It should be mandated to also do least one outdoor activity or a certain percentage otherwise its just other tick it off for people who come will complete in a week or less

That’s a great point about no challenge tiles in running mode.
You could see the progress using the Companion App.

This post was updated to add the challenge start/end times. I apologize for the confusion on when this challenge started

Yestetday on the fWhyirst of july I rode outdoor, the ride appears on companion and is included on my weektotal but it doesn’t appear on the indoor / outdoor challenge. I did the ride at 9h30 Amsterdam time. Why is this ride not included?

Because Zwift is in California and the challenge didn’t start until later in the day.

Luckily you have many, many, many more days left before the challenge ends, so there’s absolutely no way you won’t complete the challenge.

Can you not login to Zwift on a phone, in order to register yourself with the challenge?

TBF it was 8am Pacific - which is generally the time that we start all challenges and tours.

Would be a lot easier if we were all just auto signed in like with 90% of all other challenges.

And I keep reading that people should not put Zwift on more than one device since that might cause problems. Every Zwift HQ or other employee keeps telling that here on the forum …

Its just stupid that my outdoor rides are in the CA but do not count.

But this wasn’t announced until it started, or very close to the start of the challenge.

I will just complete it all on Zwift because I don’t ride outdoors, it will also all be on a wattbike because I am physically unable to run. Why is this an issue for you? Isn’t it good to have a choice? There are many reasons that people use indoor trainers, not just the ones that matter to you.
