Increase baseline resistance

I popped back on tonight just to see if it would work having being unplugged. I started zwift first and for the first 10 seconds of riding it’s fine then the resistance just completely drops off. Opened wahoo and found I needed to up the slope as well as wind. Anyway, once I’d done this I tested a couple of routes and it was fine.

Like you say, it’s annoying but at least there’s a way of getting it to work as it should. I never had this issue at all with my old tacx flux s trainer.

This would be a great addition. I’ll have to try the bodge tonight. But as I use an iPad I had massive issues getting Zwift to connect. Had to delete Wahoo first.

+1 Would love to see something like this implemented for those of us on MTBs.

+1 it would be useful indeed. At the moment, don’t even bother with Zwift if you have a MTB you’ll only be able to do workouts. So ZWIFT, will you do something after 5 years of people complaining ? The real shame is that they actually advertise to MTB users

I’m looking for the same. Anyone have try to increase the wheel size in the wahoo settings? I’m guessing a larger wheel would have the same effect. I will give it a try tomorrow and report back.

same request here :frowning:

So I increased the Wheel Circumference to 3.00m in the Wahoo app and it’s working in Zwift except in Workout mode (I’m using ERG mode in Workout mode anyway). So that might be a solution for others with a MTB.

Doesn’t this throw off speed/distance in Zwift? Kind of loses the point if we can’t accurately measure this in-game.

No, it doesn’t. It’s still accurate. Why would it change anything?

P.S. I’m not talking about a wheel on, but a direct drive trainer.

@Hugues thanks mate! Definetly i will try this one

Hi, just started Zwift for MTB training and first thing I noticed. With the number of times this has been mentioned (according to what I read here), has Zwift ever replied? Do they read these or do you need to formally write them?

Welcome to Zwift.
No, Zwift never replied to this issue.
It’s completly normal though.
Maybe in 3-5 years they intruduce a new feature with baseline resistance.
Maybe never.
But we will never know, if or when.

Hi, thank you.
That is pretty bad…It’s almost funny.
It’s quite odd, I saw something about a new (or something in beta that we can test), I will look to it tonight. You would think they would address this. But maybe MTB is not in their plans.

I would use my road bike for the MTB training but it’s the position I want. I will live with it

Have you tried to change the wheel size?

I have a 32T X 11-46T and I have set the wheel size at 3 meter and for me it’s now perfect. I did the climb of the radio tower without issue and I’m able to push as many watts as I want even when going downhill.

Ok I will try that. I would have thought that everything would increase, making climbing impossible. …bur have not looked into it. Will test it tonight, thanks.

So I go to Wahoo app, to my Kickr core device, then in wheel circ I type 3 in custom size but it tells me max value is 2.75.
Right spot to set it?

I had success with doing it some other way. I would spin at over 120rmp on a road bike and only produce about 250W as the default trainer resistance is the lowest setting.
When freeriding in Zwift you wouldn’t pair your trainer as Controllable but instead pair it with your Garmin (possibly Wahoo, i don’t have one) bike computer.
For Garmin you ADD SENSOR (trainer) in Settings, then in INDOOR RIDE mode press SELECT button and adjust resistance from 0-10 (bar graphs)
Settings 2-4 work well for me with little gear changes. You could try setting 0 for gradients 0-2%, 1st bar for 3-4% gradients and so on. Experiment with it
Smart trainer in this configuration wouldn’t change resistance on climbs but is good enough for freeride or races even on MTB
Still, it’s not a perfect solution but good enough for next 5 years

There is a spot to enter a custom value, I entered 3 and it worked for me.

In the Wahoo app I select my Kickr then select Wheel Circumference and at the top of the next screen there is a Custom Size field. Is that where you enter it?

yes, it is
