Haptic feedback on Zwift handlebar [KICKR v5]

I’ve had a Zwift Ride frame for almost 4 weeks.
From day 1, the controllers on the handlebar randomly disconnect, and switch off.
I’ve been in contact with Zwift support, and I received a new set in the post on Monday.

Yesterday, I tested them out. The first thing I noticed was that when I paired them with Zwift, they didn’t give me a long Buzzzzzz (vibration) to let me know they’d paired. Once I started the ride, I realised that they didn’t give a little buzz each time I shifted gear.

These bars didn’t drop connection, but the lack of haptic feedback when shifting is pretty annoying. Is there a setting to turn it on / off that I’m missing, or have I received another set of dud bars?!
I did try holding the 2 ‘Z’ buttons for over 30 seconds to do a hard reset - as that was something I was advised to try with the originals. It made no difference.

If these had been the original bars, I probably wouldn’t be any the wiser… but because I’ve had the vibrations on the previous one, I’m missing them!

Check your in-game settings if the haptic feedback is switched off: Settings - Hardware - Haptic Feedback on/off.

“Controller Haptic” is set to ON :disappointed_relieved:

I didn’t think it would just turn itself off because I’d changed the bars… but thanks anyway :+1:

I’m thinking this is my second set of faulty bars

The other weird thing is that they still seem to be paired (the Z remains blue - not flashing) even a few mins after I’ve closed Zwift down. The previous ones would start flashing within a couple of seconds, so I could then power them off.

Very odd.

That’s really odd, I’m afraid you’ll have to contact support then. Good luck!

Hi @Peter_Rattray

Shuji at Zwift HQ here. I peeked at your server logs and see that your Zwift Ride controllers are still on the firmware version 1.0.0 as when they left the factory. It’s important to update to the latest firmware using the Zwift Companion app (instructions here) and let us know if that helps.

Note that your KICKR v5 does not support virtual shirting as you’re aware, and stacking the QZ app does not make use of Zwift Protocol to effect virtual shifting. With this unsupported combination, it is possible that haptic feedback may not work as it would with a trainer that does support Zwift Protocol.

Hi @shooj

It struck me yesterday evening that I had not performed a FW update on the bars, so I went and did that through the Companion app.

I had surgery on my foot on Tuesday, so am off the bike for the next 10 days or so… but I’ll try loading it up later today to see if the haptic feedback has returned.

Although I am using QZ (I have a JetBlack Victory on pre-order too), it has always worked with the haptic feedback.

Thanks,
Peter

Just a quick update - the haptic feedback now works. The update fixed it :+1:

Now I need to get to the bottom of the horrible clicking noise from the drivetrain before I’m back on the bike. It’s soul destroying!
