Gears not showing in the HUD on Wattbike Atom X [game v 1.89]

Not sure why but the gears are not showing in Zwift in the new HUD.

They seen to come and go with each new version release for the Wattbikes and it should be pretty much there 100% of the time no matter if its a free ride, pacer ride and even if you have the resistance turned on or off. Sure its showing on the WattBike Atom X bottom left of the tablet but my focus tends to be on the main 32inch PC screen 95% of the time looking to preempt gear changes for the inclines and declines.

PC is Windows 10 and all connections to Zwift are via Bluetooth using an Edimax Bluetooth V5.0 USB adapter. Everything else is working perfectly, the gear position is missing on screen entirely.

Hey @Carl_Watts,

Thanks for posting in the forums! Jose from Zwift support here.

Looks like your WattBike Atom X is showing gears on its display but not in the Zwift HUD on your PC.

First, make sure your HUD isn’t hidden—press “H” on your keyboard to toggle it on/off.

Make sure your WattBike Atom X has the latest firmware. Manufacturers often update the communication settings to improve support with other apps.

The Edimax Bluetooth V5.0 adapter works for most functions, but some peripherals may need specific Bluetooth profiles. Check for driver or firmware updates, or try another adapter that is known to work well with fitness equipment.

This issue has come up before, and you might find helpful steps in this thread.

Try these fixes, and if things still aren’t working, reply here or reach out to us directly. Happy to help!

I have tried everything at my end, looks to me like its pure Zwift version related.

Running the latest available firmware accross the board for the Atom X and I cannot imagine the EdiMax 5.0 USB Bluetooth adapter is the problem as its faultless on all the other metrics like Cadence and Power and Resistance when they are all Bluetooth connected. The driver for this has not been updated by them since 2022 however.

Happy to try a different Bluetooth adapter if Zwift can recommend one that is known to work, they are cheap enough but I see most of them are still on V4.0.

Update I have ordered a Ugreen V5.4 USB 3.0 Bluetooth adapter so if this doesn’t work then I’m stuck. Will update this post with the results from testing in a week or so when it arrives.

Tried the H key, this just removes the whole HUD screen completley to give you a clear unobstructed picture.

I have seen the gear display working and the hardware setup has not changed so the problem is most likley in the current version of Zwift.

The gear display should be part of the HUD no matter if its a pacer ride, route ride as long as the resistance is turned on it should be displayed.

The problem is still in the latest version 1.90.

The UGREEN V5.4 adapter is worse in connectivity and takes ages to connect or keeps telling me to wake up my devices where as the EdiMax auto connects within seconds without doing anything. Even My Belkin V4.0 Bluetooth adapter is better and performs like the EdiMax.

The bottom line is that it was working, Zwift changed something and now it doesn’t even have the box showing “GEAR -” even if it doesn’t know the gear, the box is totally missing when the box above with all the configurable HUD options layout works perfectly. I would have just integrated the gear position into the main HUD box and made it an option to turn on or off.

I guess its no big deal for most people, they probably never had it on the screen to start with if it has not worked since V1.78 or there abouts.
