My Garmin HRM600 connects to the app via Bluetooth on my PC but neither displays nor records any data (HR is “0”). HRM connects to watch via Bluetooth and both displays and records data—so no issue with battery or Bluetooth signal from HRM. I wait a few moments, up to a minute or more, on the pairing screen but still no data. Why does it show as connected but not broadcast data?
It sounds like the HRM might still be connected to your watch. Make sure to disconnect from the watch, and then try the HRM again in Zwift.
Is it set to encrypted mode? That would explain why your watch (assuming it’s a Garmin) reads it but Zwift can’t.
I want it connected to both. I’ve been able to do that with all of my previous HRM’s and Garmin watches.
I’m not familiar with an “encrypted” mode. The user manual does not indicate there is such a thing, and none of my prior HRM’s had such a setting.
It’s new and aimed at upcoming European data privacy laws. If you go to the user manual on the Garmin website you’ll find all the info there.
Are you sure? Bluetooth is typically a 1-1 connection, so if your HRM is connected to your watch via Bluetooth, I’m not sure it can also broadcast to Zwift via Bluetooth. If your HRM has ANT+ and Bluetooth, though, you might be able to connect to Zwift via Bluetooth and your watch via ANT+.

Connection Types and LED Behavior
The HRM 600 supports both secure and open connections types.
Secure
The secure Bluetooth® connection type is encrypted and authenticated.
…
When the HRM 600 is active and using a secure connection, the LED flashes (2 times) every 5 seconds.
Open
The open connection type supports all Garmin devices that are compatible with heart rate monitors. ANT+® connections and some Bluetooth connections are open. The open connection type is also recommended for Bluetooth pairing with third-party smartwatches, tablets, or fitness equipment.
HRM is paired to watch via secured connection. I have not yet had the chance to try connecting HRM to Zwift via open connection. Will I be able to have a secure connection to watch and an open connection to Zwift? Or will I need to chance my connection to open on the watch (which I would prefer not to do)?
This is a question for Garmin support, I would try the chat (on Monday). I had already three different themes, they were always very responsive (German support in Munich).
Edit - read the manual:
“When the HRM 600 is active and using a secure connection, the LED flashes green 2 times every 5 seconds.”
“When the HRM 600 is active and using an open connection, the LED flashes green 3 times every 5 seconds.”
For me it means the device uses secure or open connection. Bad news? Not really:
“You can press the button twice quickly to toggle between connection types”
Open connection is the solution. Though I don’t care for the fact that I will need to change the connection every time I switch from riding inside to running or riding outside.
