Event Timing Changes [December 2023]

Strictly speaking the start time is the time you’re allowed to cross the start line, it’s still the time subtracted from your time at finish even if you turn up late (unless you manage to persuade the commissaires to give you a later start time)…

This isn’t about turning up late. I don’t think I’ve ever done that in a TT, though I have in a group event.

You can’t do that on Zwift (late join is for group rides only), I was talking about IRL. The point was that the clock starts whether you start moving (i.e. cross the start line) or not.

Oh I see. True, but that doesn’t really help does it?

Yes! I did he HISP tour in the summer of ‘22 but was going to not make some start times. So I set myself up for my avatar to be there and rode alone hours after others.

My HUD time showed my rime pedaling but my final tome/placement was ‘from the gun/
scheduled time so for some I’d ride say under an hour but my time for that stage could be five hours if
I’d started 4 hours later.

It was a fun experiement and while even if i
WAS there for every start i was moatly pacl fodder in the Bs BUT did get minima point(s) for for doing the stage. As above
I wnded up shifting my goal to finishing every stage (vs how well i placed on the Bs) just for my own satisfaction and occasional fun bragging rights (lol mayne this is the only time i got to do so!).: Only a small number of us dod them all which made it feel like a strong accomplishment (it took a lot
physically and mentally). I was happy it let me count those srages at all and have this new motivating but still difficult goal of
stage completion. Alas there was no ‘participation trophy’ but dang i felt good to have done it
