ERG mode not kicking in [January 2026]

Hi Zwift Support Team

Like December… it seems that Resistance is futile..

My ERG mode with my JetBlack Victory isnt working in workout mode

I restarted the PC / Reinstalled Zwift.. but sadly no ERG. During the workout even my virtual shifting stays working.. whilst ERG is on

I have same issue. Zwift(on my mac) and wahoo kickr work but erg mode does not kick in anymore after latest upgrade to 1.105.3

Had the same issue some time ago but zwift resolved it with new upgrade

Erg mode does work with zwift app on my iphone

Zwift please resolve this!!!

Are you sure erg is on? What you are describing sounds like erg is turned off. You might want to double check on the erg situation.

Hi @James_The_Lion welcome to Zwift forums

Shuji at Zwift HQ here. I’m peeking through your server logs for clues.

Q: You’re talking about a ride you did the same day you wrote in, yes? I’m seeing you logged in / logged out of game 5 times that day, and only the final ride was long enough that it was saved to your activity feed: the 6.7 km ride on Flat Out Fast route where you chose the VO2 Max INEOS Grenadiers: Anaerobic Capacity workout, please confirm that’s the one in question?

It looks like you may have been trying different routes to see if they looked like something you wanted to do, then you changed your mind and tried another. Is that what was happening on your end? It’s possible that something didn’t load correctly in that sequence of logging in / out.

Would like to ask your for some context that’s not captured in the logs. Are you in the habit of leaving Zwift running on that PC once you’re done, or do you shut down the app and also turn the laptop off? Would you mind trying to reproduce this glitch by:

  1. Power off your PC and rebooting.
  2. Log in to Zwift
  3. This time - go straight into that VO2 Max INEOS Grenadiers: Anaerobic Capacity workout and select the Flat Out Fast route in Watopia.

Does the workout load correctly into ERG mode? Please take a screenshot with the camera icon in the Action Bar across the bottom if you’re not seeing the intervals across the left side.

One other thing in your case: your machine was on game version 104.4 that day (Jan 19). The session before, it was on v105.2. My guess is that the game rollback we did last week may have had an impact here. It’s possible that rebooting / logging in fresh to Zwift might purge some cached data and clear this up.

If not - we may try to uninstall using this method that purges everything related to Zwift, then reinstall.

HellO @Peter_Tribout welcome to Zwift forums.

Looking through your server logs, I can confirm your mac is on game version 1.105.3 and your iPad is still on v 104.4 as of today.

Q: I noticed that you updated the firmware on your Zwift Play from v 1.0.0 to 1.3.0. Did that make any difference for the ERG mode situation? I suspect not.

For the same reason as James (to purge the app cache) - would you also try powering off the Mac and rebooting, and go straight into the 90+ minutes to burn Week 1 Red Unicorn workout again and let us know if that makes a differnce?

I will note that while you were troubleshooting by comparing Mac to iPad - you correctly logged out of one before you logged in on the other. That is a known pitfall that I’m glad you avoided. Please continue to use care to avoid simultaneous logins on more than one device.

I think I found the answer:

- Start Workout (ERG mode requires continuous pedaling)

- stop pedaling

- Zwift temporarily disengages ERG

- Zwift expects you to pedal back up

- If power is far from target: ERG won’t immediately clamp resistance

- This gives you time to think: “Okay, ERG is clearly not working”

- “Skip Block” instantly fixes it

- ERG is forcibly re-applied

- It feels like ““Oh.. NOW ERG works””

I think Zwift changes control modes without clear feedback, there’s no message like:

“ERG temporarily disabled resume pedaling to wattage to re-engage”.

And it is kind a weird after all years this was the firs time me experiencing this issue so obviously.

This is by design to avoid “The Spiral of Death.”

There should be a message that tells you to keep your RPMs up when you stop pedaling. Try again and watch for the message.

I deleted the the Logs folder under “Documents/Zwift/Logs”, then rebooted my Mac M3 en problem was solved. The ERG mode worked correctly again.

Thx for the support
