Ive done the set up and updated the software on the trainer and click but Im having issues with the resistance. Im unable to spin in the lower gears…for example gear 1 rpm 85 but watts is around 180w. Any idea what the problem can be?
Welcome to the forums! I’m Haziel from Zwift. I noticed your inquiry, and I want to help you get back to riding smoothly as quickly as possible.
Let’s work through some potential solutions together. First, please check that your trainer is fully updated and calibrated according to the manufacturer’s guidelines, as this can significantly impact your experience. Running a test ride through your trainer’s app might also give us some clues about what could be going wrong.
Once you’ve confirmed that your trainer is functioning well with the manufacturer’s app, please ensure that your speed sensor is properly paired in Zwift’s pairing screen. Selecting your trainer from the available options can help establish that necessary connection.
Additionally, on Zwift you can go to Settings > Trainer Difficulty and adjust the slider. If you increase it, climbs will feel steeper, while lowering it can smooth out resistance fluctuations, which might help improve your ride.
If you’re still having trouble, it could be useful to test the trainer with another device. This may help us determine whether the issue is device-specific or related to connectivity.
I hope these steps help you, but if you find you’re still facing challenges, you can contact us at Support@zwift.com, and we will provide you with more assistance.
Note that the Trainer Difficulty setting only affects gradients (climbs and descents) so if you are experiencing unexpected resistance on flat roads, it won’t do anything about that.
I can’t tell if something’s wrong with the trainer but the other thing you could look at is the in-game settings for gear range. You can read about those settings in the Gearing Details and Customizing Your Shifting sections of this article: All About Virtual Shifting in Zwift | Zwift Insider
Documentation for it is here: Shift Style and Gear Range
Hello @Marisa_Bosman and welcome to the Zwift Forums! I can shed some light on your experience here.
While it boast the highest maximum power of all Zwift Ready trainers, the Elite Direto XR also has a slightly higher resistance floor than other Zwift Ready trainers due to its internal mechanical resistance. At the lowest gear setting, a Zwifter on the Direto with the Zwift Cog will bottom out no lower than about 130 watts of output around 90rpm.
Your output seems a bit higher than expected for your cadence if you’re on a flat road at gear 1, so please feel free to contact Support if you’re not able to at least hit that lower limit of around 130W @ 90rpm. However, I’m afraid there’s not much that can easily be done if you’re aiming to hit target wattages lower than this without lowering your cadence significantly.
Hi Rowdy, thank you for the reply. I do have a Elite Direto xrt without the cog and click as well and it works perfect. If I understand correctly I will be unable to hit the targets with the clog ready trainer as some intervals require a 85rpm with 100watts?
