Elite Direto trainer - suddenly wont connect via Bluetooth

I’ve got a Elite Direto whci I’ve been using for about 5 years. All was going well but suddenly it won’t connect via bluetooth to my MacBook Air. When i turn on the trainer it makes a short noise possibly the motor starting(?). I’ve turned the pedals a number of time but it just won’t connect as the blue light continues to flash. Any help would be appreciated. I’m not very technical so simple answers will help. Cheers.

Turn off Zwift and run the Elite My E-Training app. Check if the trainer works at all. You can also use the Elite Upgrado app to check if any firmware updates exist and can be installed. If those apps don’t allow you to pair the trainer, contact Elite support. If they do and you can do a spindown in the My E-Training app then the problem may lie elsewhere.

Thank you for the quick reply Paul. I downloaded the Training app and it wouldn’t connect. I’ll look at the Upgrado app. Probably looks like a problem with the smart trainer doesn’t it? Do you have any good knowledge of the Elite Direto? Can you get new parts (motherboard)?

as another resource, you can try reaching out to the Elite trainer FB support Group

Yeah it seems like the trainer may be dead. You should contact Elite support to ask about it, but assuming it’s not under warranty, and since you might be in the UK (?) I would talk to this guy:

Thank you.

Another vote for the Turbo Trainer Doctor… :+1: He’s done some complicated repairs on Direto’s & other trainers.

Thank you for all the advice. Hope I get it sorted.

Just thinking if I got an ANT+ dongle would that help or would I probably just have the same problems?

Will Ant+ run on a Macbook?

Its a tricky one, i don’t know if a Direto has a separate chip for Bluetooth and Ant+, if it uses the same chip for both and that’s blown… I’d check with the Direto FB group and/or the Doctor first.

macOS has built-in drivers for ANT+. It’s the easiest platform for using it, just plug it in.

I have no idea if that will help in this case.

Hi @Sean_Travers,

Thanks for contacting us understand your concern about the connection, likely that Zwift isn’t receiving all of your data packets via Bluetooth (BLE).

Anything transmitting on, or interfering with that frequency could interfere with the BLE signal causing dropouts. Please check this article about interference troubleshooting.

If the issue persists it might require a bit more assistance on our part. Please use the Contact Us link on Support.Zwift.com.
