Dual recording on ZP causing havoc on Strava

If you are currently dual recording and you have your bike computer set to NOT synch with Strava to avoid duplicate records and you plan to use said bike computer outside when the weather warms, you may want to delete all the dual recorded rides from both the bike computer and the accompanied app prior to riding outdoors if you plan to synch with Strava.

We just had 1 nice day and I spent over an hour deleting 2 winters of duplicate rides off of Strava then got to repeat the exercise when I realized if I remove the entries from Strava, the app will replace it with the next synch.

Also, when you delete a ride from Strava, if you immediately start scrolling up, the app holds your place and you won’t have to rescroll through weeks/months of rides

If you are trying to delete activities from Strava, I would use the web version and just go to the “My Activities” list and delete from there. You can also sort by type of activity, so if you have it listed as a virtual ride, you can sort for those and delete them much easier.

Also, for deleting from the device, you can often plug the device into a computer and then open the activities folder just like a regular file folder on a computer and bulk-delete groups of files. This probably depends on the specific device thought.

I will keep that in mind

Hopefully, I don’t need to repeat the exercise because I will start deleting the dual recordings weekly

You sound like a voice of experience?

Nope, fortunately I have not had to do that as I don’t dual-record anything. I just navigate through Strava, both in the app and on the web a good amount, so fairly familiar with working with files in there. I’ve also had to find files in my device that didn’t sync before, thus the plugging it into a computer and using the file explorer option to get to them so I could manually upload the .gpx file.

Title corrected. I actually dual record on Zwift Power not Strava. My issue was actually a Strava issue but affected me because of the way I use Zwift.

This issue can be addressed by a proper Zwift dual recording protocol.

I dual record and delete on Strava after every ride. I have never bothered to look, much less delete the Wahoo records on Zwift (if any). I seldom race and, at best, am a middling D.

I just didn’t realize that if I didn’t want to have to keep going back and deleting duplicate files, I would have to decide which ECO system I wanted to be most complete, Strava or Coospoo.

I use Strava to keep track of all activities indoor/ outdoor cycling and kayaking.

I want to keep Strava numbers accurate even though it won’t really change anything in my life.

use the Wahoo app on on a mobile device for dual recording, at the end of the ride you can choose to email yourself the fit file. Avoids any Strava entries.

Just quit with double recording. It is of no use anyway. Lets say your trainer is A en the powermeter/pedal is B.

If they read the same value its either :

Both right

Both wrong

If they read different values its :

Trainer is right

Powermeter/pedal is right.

So you will still know not much if its legit or not. And so would anybody else.

Do you not think dual records are good practice? Its unlikely that both power meters will be totally wrong in the same direction, and nobody bats an eyelid if theres 2-3% variation.

I’d only do it once to be transparent. I need to do it with my new kickr core 2, even though it clearly isn’t reading any higher than the old one based on my performance!

Not really no. As mentioned above it gives no answer if something is correct or not. Certainly not since there is no universal standard for powermeters and although most manufacturers are in the same ballpark there is no standard they have to follow.

And besides that is only gives a value at a certain timeframe. Not what happens a day later or a week later. The setup can change, the temperature in the room can change etc which all effects the readings.

It could and does have some use, but it is not the holy grail some think it is.

Double recording is at least the proof that he’s not cheating (unless he’s manipulating both devices ).

We still dont know that. What if he gets a pair of power pedals with his trainer and his crank and they all give a different value. Than what ?

With two powermeters the only thing we know is that they either give the same value or not. Not if that value is correct.

Well, I use my power meter outside.

I dual record to bring my trainer numbers inline with my outdoor power.

There are obvious differences such as cooling etc that affect the efforts but it’s close.

I don’t like using the power meter indoors because it jumps around too much.

I just feel better when the agreement.

Dual recording does make it harder to hide cheating but if someone is riding 450 w for 30 min, there’s not much they can hide
