Cycling Level 100, XP, Drops, and Streaks [December 2023]

I know you are joking, but the answer to your question is actually no! Once you hit 100 you max out and they give you a bunch of useless drops to encourage you. So the joke is on you. Sorry.

I have this hope that they introduce a lot of new amazing stuff in the drop shop before folks hit 100 so the drop bonuses are actually useful. It’s a hope

I have over 1,300,000XP so I should be well beyond level 71 if not for convoluted level schemes.

Just give people the levels without silly schemes, make it simple and avoid all the disputes over it. Then the effort can be better spend on other things like new roads?

Half expecting vitriol like the last time I criticised this.

I think part of the problem is, if they just gave everyone the levels and the unlocks for their current XP there would be a bunch of current L60s already sitting at L100, with all unlocks, starting to get 50k drops per new level with absolutely nothing to spend it on.

So then the complaint would be “why aren’t there more levels, or more things to buy in the drop shop for L100+ people”.

On one hand I see their logic of “it’s fun to unlock stuff, so folks with a lot of XP won’t get that without banked XP”, on the other hand I think they should have thought more about folks who already have a silly amount of XP and what they can do to make that experience more interesting - whether it’s some prestige model, or some other thing.

My hope is they do have some grander scheme for the drop shop that will make those 50k drops per level after 100 useful.

Another option, let them level up super slowly and let others just choose to get whatever level they have for the XP they already have. Satisfies everyone for the most part.

I suppose those why aren’t there more levels folk will whinge “those people are getting unlocks faster than me”.

Thinking about it while cooking my tea, I feel like I’m starting to come round to it.

I’ve been trying to reframe the change in my mind. I think the whole accelerated track (and different rates) is a large part of why it annoys me so much.

If it was pitched as a more straightforward XP deflation (e.g. 1 XP in old money is 0.25 XP in new money) or something then maybe it would make more sense that I’m on a “lower level”, and then could continue to earn new XP at the normal 1x rate. None of this getting back to the 420,000 I used to have - my current 150,000 XP is that XP, just devalued.

Something else I feel I am giving too little note is that it applies to anyone who was already level 60 - they still need to level through to 100 as well. That said, I don’t know why those people are on a 2x accelerated rate. The argument for those between 50 and 60 was given that they were already on 2x; but anyone who was level 60 wasn’t increasing in level at all. They could be on the same 1.2x as the rest of us.

I appreciate I’ll get my fire socks sooner now.

Overall though, I feel like I didn’t appreciate the realities of what was happening, and so was very disappointed with what I found.

I’d like to thank you all for the hour reading this thread that I will sadly never get back. I make bad life choices.

At least you’re not watching I’m a Celebrity…

I mean, I know it sounds implausible, but this is not even the worst way to spend an hour on the internet! With this one simple trick… I’ll DM you a video, but you need to like and subscribe, there might be a paid promotion in the middle of it, and it will be bookmarked by a pre-roll and post-roll that you can’t skip.

Edit: Ignore the product placement within the video too.

I sometimes watch videos of people eating.

Yeah but I’m nowhere near 100, so I’m good.

Sounds similar to a redistribution of wealth

2023 post of the year nomination…

You have my vote LoL

Hi all,

I have a question about leveling up faster or I don’t understand my status with only two chevrons → 59 >>99 based on 723000 XP.

Why can’t I get the upleveling with three chevrons and double X? I only get the 20% discount…

That’s the same situation as many of us I think. I believe it’s due to never having previously hit a level limit ceiling (50 before 51-60 were added, or 60 before 61-100 were added) which meant a previously implemented acceleration process was already applied.

What I’m less clear about is why people with MUCH more xp (and double xp enabled) only seem to be, anecdotally, accelerated to approximately, only 95-98 where as people in our situation seem to go to 99. I’m also not sure whether hitting level 60 (or 50 when that was the limit) for just 1 day would have been enough to trigger the double xp for all the remaining levels, or whether that would have ‘expired’ after one day anyway.

Fair enough, but then I also hope they give us even a rudimentary way to organize our garages. Because there are definitely optimal bikes and wheels, and I don’t want to scroll for pages and pages to access them.

This transition scheme with a 20% discount entails that earned XP will be lost; that’s the only way I can see this working out.

I’m at level 50, midway to 51 in the old style with 510,696 XP. This should put me at level 92 new style, well on the way to level 93.

Level 50 new style is 161,000 and my banked XP is therefore 510,696 - 161,000 or 349,696.

Now when I ride from level 50 to 92 new style then I get a 20% discount but the XP along the way is 342,000 and the 20% discount is 68,400.

My banked XP 349,696 minus the discount 68,400 is 281,296 XP that are lost in the process. That means that 55% of my current XP is lost.

Can anyone show that I’m wrong?

Also, note that the accumulation is still 20 XP per km so the old XP and the new XP are the same. It’s not like the new XP is a devalued form of the old.

A different way of looking at this for is that once I reach level 100 then I’ll have about 900k XP but a new player starting today would reach level 100 at about 600k XP. My level 100 will therefore be 50% more difficult.

I’m level 13 and was so close in Drops to getting the Zwift Aeroad 2021. Just got the Drops and forced update now changed it so that I have to work until Level 27 with 1M drops.

Feel a bit robbed to see that Items previously unlocked in the Garage changing levels like that.

As a newbie subscriber, I feel like this update sucks. I can see things not unlocked changing levels, but taking unlocked things away and bumping it up 14 levels feel like a game design sin.

Know I’m one of millions, but I hope a future update can remediate this.

Hi @Erlendur_S_Th , I can assure you that no XP is lost in this transition. The level transitioning state that your rider score is in means that it will require less XP per level increase for you to reach level 92.

  • As you were not previously at a maximum level, you do not have any banked XP. Zwifters who were at level 60 prior to this update banked whatever XP was earned over the level 60 amount of XP.

  • It might be more helpful to compare your levels 50-92 to a new player starting today. While you do have more XP at level 50 than a new Zwifter who reaches level 50 in the new leveling scale, you will level up to 92 at a much faster rate than the other Zwifter due to the discounted “cost” per level as you transition.
