Cycling Level 100, XP, Drops, and Streaks [December 2023]

We should have a sweepstake on what it might be - my guess ill be fire bib shorts, they work the same as the fire sock but the flames come out of… well you can probably guess!

Looks like ZI has the full unlock list. Just confirmed I’ll probably never use any of them. A few are fun at least. Hopefully the bonus 100 unlock that’s TBD will be something worthwhile.

They’ve already taken away nearly 300,000 of my XP and told me I need to re-earn it at a marginally increased rate.

I don’t really see why I should need to. I’m not going to get much out of a 4 or 5 year journey (presumed - I haven’t done accurate sums) that just gets me to where I’d already got in real terms.

Zwift say it’s so I can “enjoy the levelling journey” - but even if I was FFWD to level 84, I’d still have 17 levels or about 170,000 XP to get. That’s still more than the levelling I had left to get to 60 - and will probably take me a few more years given I average 53,000 per year. =)

Although I’ve been in Zwift since 2015, I’ve never hit the level cap. I don’t really need to be pegged back.

OK, it might be a little faster if I engage with the “streaks” bonus XP system, but my riding patterns over the past 8 years suggest I won’t.

However I look at it, it’s a bitter taste.

you will get to levels quicker than you would have without them introducing 61 to 100.

as you say, you have never hit the level cap so why do you care so much about what level you are? what material difference does it make to your zwifting experience?

the stuff you unlock is completely pointless stuff no one wants.

anyway, agree to disagree, if i could give you my XP and put me back at level 1 i would!

Don’t care what other’s are doing, but I feel like what I have done to get to where I am at “in the game” is being devalued. I will never recoup the banked amount of XP I earned at the old level 32 at a 20% discount.

Banking everyone’s excess XP and giving them double XP until the bank is empty, and then going back to standard XP accumulation would have put me about level 75 after using my bank and I would be at a similar XP level as someone that started new today and was at level 75. From that point on I would earn XP at the normal rate and have the same journey to 100 as the new person.

The way it is today I will need more XP to reach 100 than a new rider and still have XP in the bank. And I get it. Those at 60 now have way more banked XP and will never burn through it all. That’s on Zwift for not fixing the problem the first 2 attempts and just kicking the can.

I am not complaining that a new rider has it easier. I am complaining that Zwift could have done better to not detract from what people have already accomplished.

That’s not really the point.

However, here’s a good reason: Scotty the squirrel cap. That’s at level 71 (304,000 XP). I should already have it, but it’s probably going to be 2-3 years before I get there.

(More generally, they’ve put a lot of unlocks behind these levels. I don’t care about level per se, but I do like some of the items along the way.)

When you put it like that I’m surprised there aren’t riots in the street.

Here’s what I mean about it being a bit fast to level in my opinion, this was pre and post my 48km ride this morn. I did get a 500xp bonus for a climb portal achievement, but even without that it seems pretty quick to level. Went most of the way from 49->50 in one 48km ride.

I’m not suggesting this approach is perfect, or even good, but it isn’t going to change. You can either moan about what you think you have lost or see it as a quicker way to get things had they not changed levels.

I won’t convince you I’m sure. But try not to let it ruin your day.

Doesn’t ruin my day either. You call it moaning. I call it voicing my opinion/feedback and holding a company accountable for the service they are providing. Hopefully Zwift will reflect on the positives and negatives and use them to keep all of their customers happy in the future. If nobody “moans”, how will a company know if they are doing a disservice to some or all of their customer base?

Yeah, but level 49 used to be 20,000 XP and now it’s only 5,500 XP. So sure, it’ll look like you’re getting through levels quickly; and you are. The bigger point for me is how long it’ll take me to get back to where I was, XP-wise.

I know technically they haven’t removed it, but they practically have.

Honestly, when I did my first ride with this system today my disappointment was immeasurable and my day was ruined. Hence my post.

To be clear I’m not disagreeing with you. I’m making a side point which is, the way it is won’t make someone happy who expects the unlocks because you “already earned it” - which you did - but for folks that like to go up levels it seems too fast for it to be an achievement on that side too. Where as before a level was a month for me it’s now a couple of days, so not really something to be considered an achievement.

It’s a hard thing to do to balance XP systems, and I would have taken a separate approach personally.

The thing I don’t know though is how long I get the double XP. I assume it was for XP banked while I sat at level 50 and under the old system I was accelerated to level 59. I’m now at level 59 so am I about to run out of banked xp and lose the doubling?

I’ve read through this entire thread just now, and it’s all pretty straightfoward. I just want to be clear about one thing:

If I’m a certain level now, and I keep riding, then in the future I’ll be a higher level, right?

How far in the future?

The rest of it.

Up to a point, then you’ll stop and go round in circles.

I think you will have more banked XP now since there is a large difference between the XP needed under the old level scale and the new level scale.

That’s not true for the German version of the linked page.
It still shows the old 60 level rules.
And it does not let me see the English version.
