Hi! Been using Zwift for a year and having a great time.
I’ve recently looked at setting up custom workouts just for my easy Z2 rides. I think I’m going crazy - for a few 1.5hr rides I’ve done recently I ride for 1.5hrs and it only reports as 1hr 15 mins.
Looking at the top photo (from the Companion app), it looks like there was some data dropped during your second Z2 effort. It looks like your efforts are scheduled for 25, 20, and 15 minutes, but the middle (20 min) effort is significantly shorter than the last effort (15 min).
Did you experience any issues with dropouts, or internet connectivity during this time?
Really interesting observation thanks Nigel - sometimes my wifi drops here and there but I’ve seen before it normally continues offline and uploads all at the end - I don’t know why this would be any different? I presume that’s also how re-connecting in races works.
Here’s another example from a while back too in case it looks similar - perhaps the first effort here?
I would have thought that Zwift would record the entire activity regardless of internet drops, also. So there might be something else going on here. (Hopefully someone with a better understanding will chime in.)
What I find interesting is that, if you scroll across the graph of your activity (in the Companion app), it appears to be the correct length for the workout (looking at the info when the bar is all the way to the right). But when you drag the bar across the activity (slowly) there appear to be sections missing. The first activity, for example, seems to skip from about 45 minutes directly to 50 minutes, and there are other skips elsewhere. So it seems as though the overall time is continuing, but the workout time is losing data somewhere.
Thanks for the input guys - I’m just running it off my phone (iPhone 11 pro) and connecting via Bluetooth which is why I disregarded the wifi signal. Strangely I’ve only noticed issues on these rides but perhaps it’s happening in more of my rides and because they’re a route or race I’ve not noticed the drops.
If the connection between bike and device was dropping I would’ve expected the ERG mode to mess up but perhaps there’s something smart to retain the effort there.
Another question: since you are running this on your phone, and also have these long ‘fixed watts’ sections in your workouts, is there any chance you’re taking a call, or switching to another app, during parts of your ride?
I may be incorrect, but I think Zwift stops recording data when put in the background.
Additionally, are you force-quitting the Zwift app after each session?
Thanks Nigel - good question, sometimes tab out to change music etc. or reply to the mrs if there’s something really urgent. Not a bad guess actually… I’ll see on my next ride if I just tab out for a few mins if it does it and then try again without tabbing out at all.
