Starting today my computrainer will not pair. It worked fine yesterday. I have checked the drivers and they are the 2.12.36.4 which solved the problem a few months ago. Zwift will pair it for a second and then punt it. It pairs with the RacerMate software but not with Zwift. Any suggestions?
I’ve flagged this up for further investigation at Zwift HQ. It sounds like this may have started up in Zwift version 1.105, but if the issue still occurs after the roll back to 1.104.4, that may just be a coincidence.
Please feel free to reach out to Support for further troubleshooting. I’ll update this thread as possible with any updates or questions about the issue.
Hi Rowdy, Zwift installed a change to game version 1.104.4 and that has resolved the issue. I’m assuming this is a temporary roll back, but I appreciate you getting us a solution to ride! Thank you
Hey all - are you all using Windows 10? If yes - would you see if Windows Update auto-installed patch KB5073724? Here’s how.
Microsoft released this Win10 update on January 13 2026, which might be why you’re all of a sudden having problems. Their release note indicates that certain modem drivers have been removed.
Note that two previous security patches released in December also include these “fixes and quality improvements.”
If your PC is using any of these patches, you may want to roll back to an older version of Win10, then re-install the COM driver that you have stored somewhere for safekeeping. Let us know if this approach works.
it would be nice to get these older patch version since i haven’t touched my computer for a while. im talking about the 2025 December ones. If someone could drop a link to download them pls , i would greatly appreciate it. Thks
it worked my friend….thank you so much i thought i needed a more recent computer since i couldn’t download the new Windows version. Have a wonderful day
Once again after a Zwift update I am no longer able to pair to Zwift with my computrainer. I am sure something in the updated punted the USB/Serial connection. Can you PLEASE have someone look at it.
This is great! But I am really old and challenged, even though I was in on the previous fix (I was even mentioned by name!!!). Could you develop a step-by-step procedure on how to do this? I have never heard of or done a “roll back”. How can we prevent any future changes from doing this? I had resolved not to do “update and shutdown” but it forced me. This is just awful!
Gang - we need to make clear that this most recent Microsoft security update explicitly stripped out drivers that your hard-wired connection needs to connect. See my post upstream.
Straight talk: there’s nothing Zwift can do solve this for you on our end. This requires you know how to roll back Windows patches (see link above), probably prevent Microsoft from auto-installing Win 10 updates (ill-advised from a security standpoint) and also you should keep duplicates of the COM port drivers that your hard-wired connection requires somewhere safe.
We appreciate that Computrainer users love them, and want to keep these vintage machines running for as long as possible, but the onus is on you to know how to fix Windows tech when Microsoft updates break things. If this isn’t something you’re willing to learn - please consider retiring the Computrainer and getting a contemporary trainer that will make your life much easier.
An option if you have Racermate’s original software: you can install it on a PC running Windows 98 and use the trainer as originally intended. Just don’t connect it to the internet because PC’s that old are targets for malware attacks.
We know you don’t want to hear any of this. Racermate went out of business a long time ago, and isn’t around to assist. Microsoft has end-of-lifed Windows 10 for most users, so the trusty computer you’ve been using is also on its last legs. To be clear: Zwift has no plans to kill off Computrainer use but these factors outside of Zwift’s control are working against your beloved trainer.
I hate to say this but you really deserve a more modern trainer that doesn’t require all of this extra effort. Keeping ancient devices like that alive requires the kind of work that you don’t want to do. Even a used Kickr Snap would be a big improvement. I respect everyone keeping their Computrainer out of the landfill, but they are signing up for that work and it sounds like you would rather not do it.
This new outage has nothing to do with drivers. My computrainer still connects to the Racer Mate One software the computer recognizes it. What it does not do is connect to the Zwift 1.105.3 software that dropped today. So appreciate that Zwift has no plans to kill off Computrainer use however they effectively did it twice in the last 7 days.
@Gordon_Broich_ABD
We have touched nothing in the code that would impact a Computrainer in many years, much less in the last week.
You have not said one way or the other if you’ve tried rolling back the Win10 security update. Please let us know once you’ve tried it.
You may want to look at the COM port ID assigned to the trainer, and see if there’s a conflict between the RacerMate One and Zwift apps. IIRC, you can manually tie a COM port to specific applications in Windows Device Manager, and this may get both apps working as expected. You’ll have to google for the specifics on how.
