I’m so psyched about this! I haven’t done proper races in ages until the current Zwift Games, so I’m looking for more opportunities to fit racing into my schedule. The 2330 UTC (19:30 ET, 16:30 PT) time is perfect for me, so I hope it doesn’t get adjusted.
Definition of peak hours based on availability of races seems flawed.
This isn’t the first time that a frequent piece of feedback from the users was met with “that’s the first time I’ve heard about this.” Does anyone at ZHQ talk to each other? Or is it that they do talk but completely ignore the users?
@James_Zwift I suggest checking out the ZRS-related threads here.
Though if ZHQ is cool with live-streaming a Zwift Games race dominated by notorious cheaters and doing nothing about it I’m not sure there’s any point.
I don’t agree with that, I want to go against the advanced group as a way to push myself and only on very hilly races where I have a decent chance against them.
In those races it is only the advanced A group and nobody else (ie, not a mass start event).
I don’t use it to deliberately tank race score so I could race against lower grades and win. I rarely race anyway but your proposed idea would just mean I wouldn’t bother at all.
It’s a mass start race. You are racing everyone all the time. The category split was suggested only to address some of the ZRS issues.
The ZRS issues wouldn’t be issues if it were using an ELO system but…here we are.
Count me in as another rider who’d start at about this time if it was available.
Good time for me
I like the idea of category kits but could do without if they would bring back the colored dot on the rider list.
The colored dots have worked fine for hundreds of chasing tour/ecro races without a single complaint (that I’ve seen anyway), I’m not sure where the concern over it comes from. A tweak from that formula would be to show your position within cat at the top of the rider list (ct/ecro shows your global position).
Splitting the cats is only necessary because ZRS is bad, and the split makes it a little less bad for this application. Race everyone all the time, and the scoring will work itself out (to the extent that it can).
Replacing team kits?
I can see that being hugely popular with the folks that have those super special custom kits that nobody else can get into Zwift without jumping through about 100 special conditions and hurdles.
The process is pretty good now.
Realize however, that before this change, everyone was in a single 1-1000 pen. So everyone who was not an A was effectively racing up a pen if there were any A riders entered.
What’s your ZRS if you don’t mind sharing? I would have thought that someone with your ability would have a score at least close to the advanced pen anyway. If not it illustrates the problem of using a single score without terrain adjustment for all races.
Limiting entry to only your recommended pen is targeted specifically at making the single pen mass start races work in the ZRS environment. Though I also think that there is merit in limiting how far above their recorded ability someone can race. And doing so shouldn’t impact anyone who is able to keep up.
560 is what it shows in companion app.
I rarely ever race, in total maybe 3 or 4 races ever - because they are normally all on flat courses and I have no ability to sprint since my bad accident a few years ago.
But I’m fast in the mountains, light weight and decent FTP. Still unlikely I’m ever going to take a win unless some disaster happens to all the 30 people ahead.
I’m not going to suddenly drop down to lowest groups and try to beat them - I don’t do sandbagging, that’s not me. If anything, the only races I’ve done recently is just to get Zwift Games helmet, shoes and glasses unlocks.
560 would put you within 100 points of the 650+ advanced pen so you’d still be able to enter.
It’s the people with scores around 200-300, who are finishing 10+ minutes behind in a 30 minute race, who are entering the wrong pen either by mistake or to keep their score low.
I’m going to add a 1030 & 1230 UTC slot on the basis of this thread.
Sadly if they don’t perform, I’ll need to drop them for May.
Based on some of the comments in here I’m going to resume my forum holiday. Bye!
