Changes to Advanced / Epic Races from 3/31 onwards

I don’t know what might be different but the Chasing/ECRO races you can see the dots of everyone in the list and on the minimap (and on companion, though those are a little too small to be of any use). And even though it’s not ZRS-enforced the pens are set up using ZRS (0-1000, but still). Example from today:

I think it is the fact that it is not category enforced or it could potentially have changed since I last watched / took part in a mass start multi category event.

I’ll test a couple of things and see.

FWIW the Chasing Tour races worked the same the last two years, could see everyone, position in the nearby list was global and not just by cat (this one could be changed to be more obvious where you stand in the race), etc.

I think the category jerseys are extremely helpful in mass start races. What’s lost in individual expression in kits is made up for and being able to understand who and where your competition is. Riders in nearby list icons are too small, often has quirks in order, shifts frequently, and displays incorrect distances.

I think (and can’t specifically remember when I set up the last ones), that the pre-ECRO ones weren’t “scored” in the same way.

Yes, I agree Lebasi.

Maybe this is something that should be addressed on the development side of the house.

Potentially but out of scope for the purpose of what I’m trying to do here.

I’m not disagreeing with you but ultimately is not something that will change in the short term.

I can’t read the riders nearby list but my eyesight is truly dreadful.

My eyesight is fine normally but in any race, reading becomes difficult as does thinking.

This is great news, @James_Zwift! Thank you for engaging here.

Start times are an issue for me as I like to ride early in the morning, US West aka Pacific Time and none of the listed start times support this which is in line with what WTRL has done in the past. A 0600 PT (1300 UTC) would be marvelous.

Thanks again.

You wouldn’t be able to late join Mark :joy:

I’ll have a look.

Zackly so. Ya know, if those rides weren’t starting at 5am here…

Echoing Mark’s comments, but make it 1130 UTC (4:30am Pacific) please. I’m a morning rider and there’s nothing within several hours of when I can ride in either direction.

Or just match the weekend timeslots.

The weekend timeslots are loosely designed around the ability to do a longer race in the morning - which you don’t tend to get during the week.

1300 UTC (might be 1230 because I want to to try and avoid having them on the hour) but at a quieter time of day I wouldn’t want to have 2 events too close)

I can do longer races during the week, that just means they have to start early. 1300 will be too late for most of the continent.

You don’t want events too close but you have a pair separated by an hour, another pair separated by two hours?

Which are at our peak hours.

I’m out for the day. Back tomorrow.

So Europe gets tons of events during their peak hours, and NA morning riders get nothing. OK.

Is there any consideration for morning riders (anywhere on the planet) or are evening riders the only ones who matter for ZHQ event scheduling?

The problem I saw with the WTRL time slots was the 5 hour gap from 0400 PT (1100 UTC) to 0900 PT (1600 UTC) followed by start times every 15 minutes. I guess this was to accommodate the late afternoon EU racers. I complained about this for a few years and then gave up; I have no idea if that’s fixed and don’t really care anymore. WTRL is a law unto themselves with their own way of doing things including bullying people that don’t agree with their premise. That’s all I have to say about that…

Well the feedback that some of us are giving to Tim and Ryan over past 6 months is mostly in this direction.

ZRS is even easier to tank and sandbag than CE with Wkg 90days.

15% discount to ZRS Seed when you do a new 5min PB is even bigger problem and this is why tanking is so easy.
