Cannot connect trainer for resistance unless I connect it as power source first

Hi, I cannot connect my trainer (in fact it is not even seen) as resistance unless I pair it as power source first

(Windows 10/using Bluetooth but iirc the issue was present with ant+ too but my dongle broke)

Thatā€™s expected behaviour, imho.

Why is this expected? It doesnā€™t necessary and is very inconvenient because it requires me to:
-unpair assiomas as power
-pair trainer as power
-pair trainer as resistance
-unpair trainer as power
-pair assiomas as power

instead of just:
-pair trainer as resistance as it was paired previously

Itā€™s a reasonable suggestion. The current way it works is ā€œnormalā€ for Zwift, meaning it has always been that way AFAIK. It would also be great if people could choose a device and have it take precedence over other devices within range, for situations where there are several trainers, HRMs, etc. in a room. If my wife starts the game while I am riding, it almost always steals my trainer connection. She has no need to ever pair my trainer to her app.

And while I am at: when my ant+ dongle still worked there were always 2 ant+ trainer profiles ā€œelite nero realtrainerā€ and ā€œelite fe-cā€ (similar for wahoo kickr) thay showed up but only ā€œelite fe-cā€ changes resistance. Why even show ā€œelite nero realtrainerā€ā€¦

And since I am on a roll why not show connection status during rides!

This is still the case with the newer trainers. I get the FEC and ā€œRealtrainerā€ options with my Elite Justo. No idea what the difference is, or the point of there being 2 of these.

Connect the realtrainer and you will find that the resistance doesnā€™t change!

Old (2016) but still true:
"The new protocol would be known as ANT+ FE-C, with the FE-C standing for ā€˜Fitness Equipment Controlā€™ "

Donā€™t know if it will work for you, but when I am pairing my SB20, I use the left Stages power meter, the Stages bike cadence and Stages bike as controllable. I do not have to change back and forth if the cadence is paired to the trainer and not the power meter.

bumb, no response from support? this is such an annoyance

This is from August 2021 - it was always like this. Perhaps it is how the BLE connection works, I donā€™t know if itā€™s different with ANT+.
