Cadence plateaus [Jetblack Victory]

Has anyone else noticed flat spots on the cadence graphs for the Victory? I’ve gone back through my activities and it looks like it’s had this issue for around 3 months, not sure if this coincides with a firmware update or Zwift update:

I noted this yesterday - but only after the ride, not during. I guess I wasn’t looking at the number in-game.

Am seeing it a bit too, not consistently but during stretches here and there.

I’ve also been noticing some power discrepancy during sprints. Not every sprint, but seems to be when I rapidly increase cadence during a jump sprint. It’s as though the victory is having trouble updating flywheel speed. Perhaps there’s some low-pass filtering that has been embedded to overcome previous cadence issues.

Power and cadence for the “jump sprint”:

I’ve just submitted the ‘digital cadence’ FIT file over to the team at JB to have a look into. :ok_hand:t3:

Thanks for that Shane. Hopefully it’s an easy fix via a firmware update. Would this cadence issue effect ERG workouts, as if the cadence reading is low, it would apply more resistance than it needs to?

I just checked out a few of your rides on the companion app and yes, you definitely have the same issue - your climb portal ride on the 3rd June looks very similar, over 50% of the cadence line is flat spots.

Great eye!

The issue starts in my logs when I updated firmware from 4.23 to 4.29.

Well dang, I thought 4.29 was in the clear so I finally went for it.

Hey all - thanks for flagging this up. I split your reports into a dedicated thread to keep tabs on it.
We’ll share any updates here as there’s news to report.

I did an ERG workout last night and it definitely feels like the cadence issue is affecting the feeling of ERG mode. It feels much harder at lower rpms than usual, to me at least. It would be good to know if anyone else has found this. I was struggling to hold sweetspot power in ERG mode with the cadence stuck in the mid 70’s.

Our engineers will discuss with JetBlack and we’ll update this thread as there’s news to report.

Thank you Shuji.

I’ve just managed to roll back the firmware to 4.23 using the code ROLL_423 - I tried 428 for 4.28 but it didn’t work. I’ll shortly test this 4.23 firmware and see if it makes any difference and report back.

Rolling back to 4.23 does seem to have solved the cadence issue, so I’ll stick with this firmware until a fix is found.

But no USB support, right?

I only tried it with BT, but yes I don’t think the USB will work with the older firmware. It’s a shame I couldn’t find a rollback for 4.28.

@MarkyMarkZwifts
Thanks for reporting that reverting your Victory to firmware v 4.23 relieves this pain point.

For others reading along: please follow Mark’s lead until Jetblack issues a firmware release that fixes this.

Maybe a stupid question but how do I roll back firmware ?

To roll back the firmware to 4.23 you need to go into the advanced settings in the JetBlack app and enable the ‘Preview Firmware’ option. Then go to the Firmware Update setting and there should now be an option to type in a firmware code - type in ROLL_423 and it will install firmware 4.23 on your trainer.

Thank you !!
