Since itâs going to be the question on everybodyâs mind :
if youâre riding near a member youâve blocked you can see any messages they send to the general chat in-game
So, no, thatâs not the feature we were expecting to have a better UX while riding.
And sadly, weâll keep getting spammed if we donât mute the chat to try and enjoy the social aspect of Zwift
Hey now, it took them months to develop this much-requested feature!
Itâs a start but very much misses the mark.
Blocking should mute that user in the public chat, their messages should be sunk into the abyss by the local client never to be seen until they are unblocked.
If Zwift_User_ID is in block list array, then return public message for Zwift_User_ID null.
Appreciate the feedback. Today, this feature addresses the longstanding request to block specific people, and as noted above, will continue to evolve over time.
In all seriousness though at least itâs a start (and IMO should be a focus as we head back into indoor season).
Hopefully this can expand to Zwift, the core app, soon; so blocking users and not seeing their messages in-game also becomes a thing.
Question though:
Say we block ⌠10 people.
Is there somewhere in the app where we can see said 10 people we blocked? ie: is there a list of blocked users for the potential need to unblock, or do we have to remember / find them, to unblock them.
If the answer to this query is no however, Iâd hope one day that list will be âeasilyâ accessible.
Excellent progress. Iâd love to see an option to mute a rider for this activity / mute a rider forever option as well, to improve in-game group chat. I concur with Andrew that itâs helpful to be able to review a list of blocked people. In other social media apps I do periodically review that and unblock people who have improved their behavior.
In the privacy settings, could we get the ability to set default privacy based on the ride/event type?
For example set races to public by default but have other activities default to private?
Even though I found the new feature in itself disappointing since I was hoping for an overall user-blocking feature, I must admit that the FAQ around the topic is well written and covers most questions; like yours for instance :
Currently, you canât see a list of members youâve blocked.
Point 2 should say unblock and as others have said hopefully in future public chat is removed and Pauls idea of mute for x time or for this event is a great idea.
Glad to see this rolling out. Adding two related requests for blocking & privacy while riding:
âIf youâre riding near a member youâve blocked, theyâll see you in-game and theyâll see any messages you send to the general chat. You can also see any messages they send to the general chat.â
Does this mean that they will still have an option to use âJoin a Zwifterâ to ride with you & chat with you in-game? And if so, Iâm hoping youâll add future functionality that hides your current activity while riding if youâve blocked someone.
Related: Please add a global Privacy Setting to Hide Current Activity so that people canât see that you are riding â this is also an important part of a holistic rider privacy & safety strategy.
iâd like to echo the request for a viewable list, or some type of temporary mute function. the 1%
of cases should be the major focus for other people, but 99% of the time i would just use the feature because i want a guy to leave me in peace for maybe two hours
I agree. I think a âvariable muteâ function, would be most beneficial for the public chat. Example, someone is having an off day or hops on the trainer after having the special kind of gummy bears. Theyâre just annoying and you want to simmer them in the moment, there should be a âmuteâ function which then persists until you end your activity. A new session would revert not having that user muted.
just today, actually. though i reported him for breaking ToS instead, the first and hopefully last time i ever feel like i have to do that. truth be told, i can deal with that stuff whether the rules are on my side or not, but whether or not i personally can handle someone acting way out of pocket myself, i strongly feel that nobody should have to
