Hi all - following the release of Zwift game version 1.69, we optimized automatic steering behavior for your avatar to take better advantage of available draft. It was different enough that some were confused and concerned by it.
Thanks to your feedback, the auto-steering change has been disabled on the server end, and your avatar will revert to previous behavior. Be sure to log out of an open Zwift session and log back in for the change to take effect.
Some reported that something felt buggy with your steering-enabled devices, and others thought it was a change to the pack dynamics behavior at work more broadly in Zwift. We want to be clear that the auto-steering change was neither of those things.
Weâll need to do more tuning and refinement of automatic avatar steering. For those whoâd like to follow progress of that work - join the Zwift Labs club using Zwift Companion, and stay tuned for Zwift Lab events where you can try it out.
Iâm seeing an old bug/behavior come back. I have a kickr bike paired but steering unpaired.
I experience very poor steering with my avatar frequently being moved to the edge of the pack. I can drop off the back of the pack and move up again to get a better draft position, but I quickly get shuffled to the side again.
This happened early in PD4 but seemed a lot better before this last update. It feels like there are 3 states of steering; No Steering, Steering exists but not on, Steering is on. It feels like âexists but not onâ behaves differently and ultimately worse than âno steeringâ. Can you take this back and check.
Based on what happened with leveling requirements we can expect this change to come back with no announcement and a total refusal to comment by ZHQ in October
@shooj I think you are making the right decision to test things with Zwift Labs before releasing it to everyone. Most new features should be tested or to try new things on the zwift Labs Club before being released to avoid problems and people complaining.
Ignoring Eric Schlangeâs post about it, it doesnât help actual Zwift employees called it PD5 here on the forum, and also on facebook; see:
RegardlessâŚ
The patch hasnât even been out for a week; canât say that was much time to really note any significant changes.
From the very tiny amount of testing I got it didnât seem to be any worse, if anything, slightly better than where we were⌠but I canât say I really saw anyone talk about it.
Again, the patch⌠wasnât even public for an entire week for the vast majority of users.
Or am I confused; was this ONLY a Zwift LABS event-only thing???
If thatâs the case⌠then yes, Iâm even more confused than ever before. Why put something in the patch notes as an adjustment etc. But fail to mention itâs not even a public update but something in specific events not everyone can even attend in the first place?
When I toyed with it, I got the red barriers, so I assumed that meant it was a global thing.
I would increase the time, or better give us a slider in the settings to control when it kicks in (from âoffâ to 5 seconds, 10 seconds etc. or something) but it should only kick in if there is someone ahead of you (say within 5-10m) to follow.
