which treadmill do you have?
You’ve dropped into a very old post.
The world of auto incline has moved on somewhat and it’s now possible in simple terms.
I have a Sole F85 -but not too smart, I am using a Runn.

The F85 is a strange beast. Sole like to lock their firmware but it depends where you live!
I live in the US, and to be fair, this treadmill has been incredibly reliable -like a Corolla. I’ve personally logged over 5,000 miles on it, my wife over 3,000, and the kids around 1,000—all at high speeds long workouts without doing anything to it. I just replaced the rollers, motor, and running belt, so it’s good to go for another 5,000–10,000 miles; however, it’s pretty dumb! Thank goodness for the Runn sensor, which smartens up the experience!
Ah right. It’s the older F85.
Back from the days before BT connectivity.
I find it odd and confusing they called the newer model the F85 despite it being totally different.
Yes, you’re correct. Sole doesn’t actually change product name, they change the year model, so all of them are F85 even from 15 years ago LOL
For those that have used the auto incline feature, how good is it and for what type of running do you like it best?
I am looking at buying a new treadmill, and wonder how much value I should put on BT connectivity(for auto incline) vs choosing a simpler/older mill and use NPE RUNN.
Hi Oscar,
Auto incline is as such only available via 3rd party software.
QZ being the market leader.
Only lastb week the app unlocked the ability to open up auto incline natively.
Basically the app replicates your treadmill being a Kickr Run which is the only treadmill to be authorised for this.
I’ve been using it and it’s fantastic. It brings up the incline graph in the HUD so you get live incline data and can see how far to the end of the gradient.
There are some well priced smart treadmills that can use this feature. For me it’s game changing and i would no longer consider buying a dumb treadmill.
Thank you for the reply. I aware of QZ! And the last sentence pretty much sums up my fears of going with a non-BT mill at this point in time.
I am struggling a bit with finding the best value for money BT mill that will also suit my 85kg/190lbs and support this. Looking at Sole F63 v Horizon 7.0 currently
You’re around my size.
Deck strength is your biggest issue. Let me compare those models for you and I’ll come back to you.
Little to pick between models based on specs.
I’d look at reviews regards customer service in your country. This may help you decide.
My gut says the Sole is the one I’d pick.
Thank you, I guess the question I am debating is getting a new F63 with incline support (via QZ) or getting a lightly used F85 without BT and modding it to get incline.
But the treadmill modding community seems somewhat small so I am unsure if that is really feasible or not.
I would love to go F80 though, based on the deck as you say
The modding of Soles can be a nightmare. It depends on the model year along with regional variances.
Without BT support you’ll make your life very hard.
A new F63 will be fine especially if you are using it for Zwift.
Right, I am in Europe(Norway) and the model would be a 2018 F85.
But I see your point, at least it would mean some soldering and esp32/arduino setup.
Will try to test the F63 locally, just to get a feel for how a 12-14kmh speed feels like.
Hi all,
Firstly apologies for going over old ground. I’m an experience zwifter for cycling, but my wife got in to running 6 months ago and is making amazing progress.
I’d like to make it even easier for her to train without constraints around time / weather etc to keep improving at this pace.
Auto incline seems to be the best way to keep this all feeling interactive and not just plodding along constantly.
I like the Noble-Pro Elite E8s (and its price point compared to others). Will this in conjunction with QZ app and Zwift enable this?
Thanks and sorry if this thread was moved / closed / solved etc. I’m new to these forums.
Thanks
Yes James.
It works perfectly. Even better I’m an ambassador for NoblePro so can help with some discount. I’ll drop you a private message.
I seem to be very late to this thread, but I’ve just started using Zwift and have an old Pro Form Pro 2000 which does not have BT or WiFi. I use it with a RUNN which has been quite good so far. Now I want to take the next step and add the ability to do auto incline.
I’m quite happy to do some soldering and I have found a few relay options on Amazon and added pictures below as I can’t seem to add links here. So, a few questions.
- Which is the correct one of buy?
- How does QZ communicate with the relays if there is no BT?
- Where do I power the relay board from and can anyone help me with the wiring to ensure I get it right?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
please use github thread for this this is the zwift forum
