Heart Cast solved the problem for me. HC first, Companion second, Z third.

On mine, it seems to work really well with heartcast but at very regular intervals the connection drops completely for a split second, such that my heart rate graphs end up looking like EKGs. You experienced that at all?

Just using Apple Watch (and yes, connecting it takes a magical incantation), the connection drops every once in a while for a split second, but not on any regular cadence and certainly not every minute, Maybe once or twice during an hour long ride.
