I have the same problem connecting bluetooth devices to ATV 4k. The reason given by Zwift support is that ATV only allows two Bluetooth connections in addition to the Apple remote and suggested I take this up with Apple. I wish they had made this clear before I bought the Apple TV specifically to run Zwift.
I have pairing devices problem on ATV 4K. I can not see or choose alternative on the paired devices windows use zwift mobile link or use build-in bluetooth
Can’t select to “use zwift mobile link” or “use build-in bluetooth” on top right at paired devices window on ATV. Unfortunately, I could not solve it with deletion and reintroduction of zwift on ATV.
I would like to switch from iOS to ATV. and using zwift mobile link on ATV 4K. Attach a normal screen on iOS. because I want this select screen to appear in ATV 4K.
From :iOS 10.13.2(17C88)iMac (27-inch, Late 2012)
To: tvOS 11.2.1 15K1521 apple tv 4k
I am having similar issues. Can’t seem to switch over to mobile link connections for the heart rate. Kickr connects fine, Speed Sensor connects fine and then the heart rate monitor, connects and drops off because of too many ATV connections. This is pain… Why I can’t I have more connections and have everything connected nicely through ATV? Surely this was tested better than this. You have to have at least 3 connections to have all of the telemetry setup somehow…
I’m having this same issue now, as well ATV 4K won’t pick up BLE devices in Zwift… iPhone and iPad running Zwift will work just fine.
It was working fine last week.
Using the latest (grey handle) Kickr, ATV 4k, and the Wahoo cadence sensor. Same issue here. Spent an hour last night trying to get the system working.
Resolution: Used the Wahoo Fitness app on the iPhone to “forget” the Kicker and the cadence sensors and then paired them up again. Closed out the app on the iPhone and then opened the Zwift app on the ATV. The Kickr power showed up as paired immediately, but not the cadence sensor. Rather than trying to pair the sensor by clicking on the cadence icon I shook the cadence sensor to wake it. It seemed to pair up (icon color changed from red to blue) and all went well. Have used Zwift on the ATV now twice without problems.
Will see how this goes for a few more rides and then try adding up the HRM.
I have found an alternative method that appears to work pretty well. The ATV is limited to 3 bluetooth connections, so depending on what all you have you will probably run out of connections which is what was causing me so many issues. This method seems to work reliably at the moment.
- Turn on the ATV/Zwift App
- Wake up all your sensors, for me it is Kickr2017, Speed/Cadence SC, HRM and ATV remote (4 BLTE connections total)
- Open Zwift Mobile Link App
- in the Zwift ATV App, make sure it set to use the ZMLA for connections. Give it about 10 seconds and you should all of the sensors connect or you can click connect if they do not auto connect. If you do not see them connect quickly. Turn off BlueTooth on your Phone, turn it back on and go back to the ZMLA and try again. This works very effectively for me and allows for all of my sensors to pair including the remote on the ATV
- Start Zwifting
- Ride On!
Jarod - Could you please explain how to perform step #4? What is “ZMLA” and how does one go about setting the ATV app to use it?
Thanks
Hi Andrew,
ZMLA = Zwift Mobile Link App. Mine sort of turned on by itself when 4 devices tried to connect to the ATV when Zwift was running and trying to pair. Evertyime I tried to connect the 4 Bluetooth connection it would connect and immediately drop one and then Zwift would ask if I wanted to use the the Zwift Mobile Link App for connecting the last device. Then it flipped and connected but it was just confusing and I had drop outs of data not being displayed on the ATV but were showing in the ZMLA. I decided to try connecting everything through the ZMLA app and not using the ATV connections at all and so far everything has worked really well. But you have to have the app running and make all the connections first and leave it running while you ride. If you put in the background it will not connect to the sensors and will eventually drop the connections. At least that is what happened to me. See all the screen shots below for icons and connection status
Jarod - thanks for the support! I have been closing the “ZMLA” after enabling blue tooth. The message in the upper left hand corner of the PAIRED DEVICES screen shot, “USING MOBILE LINK TO FIND DEVICES”, does not appear in any of my iPhone Zwift apps or in the ATV Zwift app. What were you running when you took the screen shot?
Hi Guys - what helped me a lot is the advice that the Wahoo HRM will only connect to ONE Bluetooth device - this should be made more obvious I think.
Andrew, the screen shot you mention is from the Zwift app running on the AppleTV, but the final screen shot of all the paired devices is from my iPhone running the ZMLA. You have to have both of them running the entire time and on the active screen on the phone.
Jarod - followed your directions and am having no problems. Have not yet tried to pair th HR sensor but am confident that it will work just fine with the ZMLA running on the iPhone.
Thanks for your support - much appreciated.
You are welcome Andrew. The HRM should connect perfectly now. I actually have to put mine on in order to get a solid connection versus just shaking it to wake up.
shutting off BT on phone and ipad fixed the glitch and allows the kicker to hook up with ATV. i have also spent way too long working on this.
I did the latest iOS update to all Apple devices and redownloaded and reinstalled zwift app and zmla… I can now get two devices to connect to atv but I can’t get anything to connect to zmla and bridge them to the atv…
Can that same Zwift Mobile Link app (now Zwift Companion App) bridging be done if the mobile app is running on an Android phone?? I can’t get it to work.
After a lot of messing about the method Jarod outlines works pretty much all of the time for me. I sometimes have trouble with the Cadence sensor but everything else pairs just like he says.
Thanks Jarod!
I’ve now tried 3 different ways to connect my set of Wahoo sensors to ATV.
-
The one that works all the time is to run Zwift Companion App on my iPad (I don’t have an iPhone) - part of the reason I bought the AppleTV was to free up my iPad from Zwift duty in the basement, but carrying it down for this is not that bad. Using it for other ZCA functions is not as handy as doing so on my phone.
-
Running ZCA on my Android phone, paring is a snap but I get regular WiFi dropouts. This seems to be a problem that many have since the March Android updates - it is not just a Zwift/ZCA issue. An April Android update did not fix the problem - on Saturday I did a race and 36 minutes in lost WiFi and all sensors disconnected. Turn WiFi off/on again restores but lost over a minute to the nearby bikers.
-
I bought the NPE CABLE ANT+/BLE bridge - this seemed to work, but with my Wahoo Kickr/Tickr/RPM combo of sensors, power or RPM readings are always way off, depending on which way you pair sensors. After ignoring me for weeks, NPE responded that there was a bug in the software, there would be an update last week to fix. As of Saturday, no update.
So, for now will continue to use the iPad. I’m kinda feeling like Apple will update the BLE limit before Android or NPE fix their problems!
