I’m an A rider and my score is 594, lower than plenty of C riders, who I could smoke in a race by riding my FTP.
I mean, I have a pathetic ZRS, but my FTP is 4.2 and I can do 405w for 5 mins (5.23 w/kg). But according to the ZRS, I am worse at racing than guys with an FTP of 3.2 and a 5 min power lower than my FTP. I can ride pretty well attended 690-1000 races and not get dropped, but I suck at racing compared to guys in the 350-520 who can draft well and have a good sprint
But, I know a French rider with 531 who - I promise - is an A+ (black A ) rider, with a 20 minute power of 4.7 w/kg.
It’s like ZRS thinks a local Cat 2 Crit King is a better racer than a non-sprinting domestique in the World Tour or something?
Anyone beating the 531 A+ rider and myself for ridiculousness? Any A riders that are sub 500?
Honestly, this system would say that ‘Tractor’ Tim DeClercq is a worse cyclist than Cory Williams…
Everyone knows that French rider he’s been posted here 4 times lol. He doesn’t need to sprint so he isn’t updating his 30s and he’s way above strength of field so isn’t shifting to A quick
It would seem that the 30s is massively oversignificant in the ZRS calculation. If someone is winning races in the highest category but has a constantly declining racing score because they don’t / won’t / can’t sprint, it’s silly.
For me, an easy fix to this silliness is to upgrade anyone who finishes any race within a short distance of the winner (eg. 24th in a 690-1000 race, 8s behind the winner) to the minimum race score of the category they were just competitive in.
So, your score is 545, but you enter a 690-1000 race and finish 22/52, 23s behind the winner, with a w/kg average similar to the riders in the top ten - your score is upgraded to 690 - as you can clearly hack the demands of that category.
Unlike many I don’t want to win or podium or top ten.
I want to survive in the highest possible category. It means way more to me to not get dropped against the very best than to top 5 in the B grade. It’s more of an achievement and this should be reflected in the scoring system.
Mine goes down every race. And it goes down if I don’t race, but hit loads of PBs in training.
I usually finish towards the rear of what IRL would be called ‘The Peloton’ and I only ride well attended races in the highest category. Score goes down every time I race.
There are riders in my ‘victims’ on ZP who have never placed ahead of me in any race. They have ZRS 150+ higher than I do. My numbers for 20/5m are significantly higher than theirs.
I never said it was fair. I never know how outraged I should be when someone says a B did 4.5w/kg. If you tell me they were both high wattage and doing that, then most/any scoring system should put them in a higher cat; if they are super lightweight, then some would and some wouldn’t. Min watts for CE was fair-ish
I’m a solid B. I’m too heavy to compete when the road goes uphill longer, but I have a decent sprint. My ZRS is 763 and I’m getting dropped by guys throwing around +5 w/kg for 15 minutes…
So I’m one of those guys whose been credited way too many points because of a few good sprints?
Sort of miss the old B cat where it felt more leveled out for me
