I’ve done just enough coding to know that certain kinds of later expansion/development can be next to impossible without a complete rewrite. They could not have known at the beginning the number of users and all the ways it would make sense to develop Zwift, five years down the road.

That seems entirely possible.

And for the record, we’re six to eight to ten years down the road. The “very first ridable version” was running as a personal project of Jon Mayfield in December 2010. By the spring of 2012 it was still Jon’s project, but far enough along to attract interest on Slowtwitch. As of 2014 it was Zwift, and available to a limited beta user base.
