The various Zwift communities are rife with discussion about ZwiftPower moving in-house and speculation that the people that voluntarily created and faithfully maintained it are no longer involved.
Please provide some clarity and reassurances around what the changes are, or will be in the immediate and longer term future.
I havenât heard anything about Zwiftpower lately but just before Zwift started to get serious about Zwift racing, DC Rainmaker reported that Zwift had invested a sizable chunk of cash into Zwiftpower in order for it to continue functioning for the racing debut. It was going to basically close a while back because it was getting to be too much work for the dedicated volunteers running the site. It survived this long because of Zwift, so it wouldnât be surprising if they bought it outright.
We received support from zwift to cover costs but there was absolutely no âsignificant fundingâ and I can see nowhere in that article where it states there was.
Iâm not going to argue semantics but as the article states, âThe site used also receives funding from Zwift to operate.â If you have a problem with the reporting then you should take it up with DC Rainmaker. Have an enjoyable day.
Guess you got caught on the back foot thinking that would just slide under the rug and now you need to make an announcement. You lose users this way because itâs unprofessional and makes you guys look bad. Itâs like you donât even know where the value comes from in your product.
The troubling thing here is that, yet again, WE (the paying subscriber base) are left in the dark when it comes to major updates and/or changes.
Zwiftpower changing hands is a HUGE deal to those of us that race and use the site for legitimate results. As a paying subscriber, Iâd like to know where my money is going. Is ZP going to continue to operate as it has, only in-house? Or is Zwift going to scrap it because only a âsmall percentage of Zwift users race?â
If Zwift has taken over ZP, there is absolutely NO reason why we should be finding out through hearsay or third party sources. Zwift should be releasing a statement with their plan and intentions for ZP and how itâs going to effect community racing moving forward.
Lastly, Iâm sick of being led on, lied to, having information withheld and generally being treated as though my voice doesnât matter because Zwift already has my money. Theyâve made it clear that their top priority is acquiring new subscribers. Theyâve done this by essentially ignoring the requests and demands of the community or riders and racers that made Zwift what it is.
I want this to be abundantly clear: Zwift IS NOT the community. The community IS Zwift. If a viable alternative to Zwift emerges and large teams decide to move to that platform, they will take the very thing that makes Zwift great with them - the COMMUNITY. We are the heart and soul of the Zwift platform and that is something that Eric Min & co. shouldnât ever forget.
I guess they donât like defining terminology. Either way, I hope Zwift does integrate Zwiftpower into the app and take responsibility for race data and outcomes.
While my subscription may not have paid for ZP before, it was a supplement to Zwift that gave racing on Zwift a bit of legitimacy. Seeing as how theyâve apparently taken control of that, which may heavily impact my enjoyment of a subscription, I think itâs fair to want answers and info regarding the future of ZP. Allowing the community to speculate and gossip to swirl is a terrible customer service model.
