Zwift virtual gearing with exaggerated resistance increase when changing gears

On my new Kikr V6 I have the click with Zwift Cog. Whenever I shift up a gear the resistance goes up a lot and after going up it starts to go down until after a few seconds it stabilizes at the resistance that seems right for the new gear. Shifting down also takes a moment to stabilize power but its less felt by the legs.
After those seconds it takes time to adjust it feels ok but gearing up overloads my legs with unexpected increase in resistance.
Why does this happen? What should I do?
The firmware has been updated on kikr and click and zwift is also up to date.
Tks

Hi @Sergio_Saldanha, This is Monica, from the Zwift team. I’m sorry to read that you are experiencing issues with the resistance with your Wahoo Kickr V6.

After checking your account, I was able to see that you are having some BLE disconnections. To resolve virtual shifting issues with a Zwift Click and a Wahoo Kickr v6 with Zwift Cog, ensure both the Zwift software and the trainer firmware are up-to-date, and that the trainer is properly paired via Bluetooth.

Here’s a more detailed breakdown of troubleshooting steps:

  1. Software and Firmware Updates:
  • Zwift: Make sure you’re running the latest version of Zwift.
  • Wahoo Kickr v6: Update the firmware of your Kickr v6 using the Wahoo app.
  • Zwift Click: Ensure your Zwift Click also has the latest firmware.
  1. Pairing and Connection:
  • Bluetooth:

Pair your Kickr v6 and Zwift Click via Bluetooth in the Zwift game settings.

  • Zwift Companion:

If using the Zwift Companion app, ensure it’s also paired with your Zwift Click.

  • Trainer Pairing:

Make sure your trainer is paired with Zwift in the “Paired Devices” screen.

  1. Virtual Shifting Settings:
  • Enable Virtual Shifting:

In the Zwift in-game settings, navigate to the “Hardware” tab and enable virtual shifting.

  • Virtual Shifting Mode:

Ensure you are using the correct virtual shifting mode (e.g., Zwift Click/Play).

  1. Troubleshooting Specific Issues:
  • Resistance Issues:

Since you’re experiencing resistance issues, try disconnecting from all previously paired apps and completing a factory spindown on the Kickr v6.

  • “Free Watts” or Power Discrepancies:

Some users have reported “ghost watts” or power discrepancies when using virtual shifting, especially when stopping pedaling in a high virtual gear. Wahoo has addressed this with firmware updates, so ensure you have the latest version. If the issue persists, a manual spindown may help.

  • Shifting Lag:

If shifting feels slow or unresponsive, ensure your Zwift Click is well-connected and not experiencing any battery issues.

  • Zwift Cog:

Since you have a Zwift Cog, ensure it’s properly installed and that your trainer is Zwift Ready.

  1. Additional Tips:
  • Power Cycle: Try power cycling your Kickr v6 and Zwift Click/Play to resolve any temporary connection issues.
  • Factory Reset: In rare cases, a factory reset of the Kickr v6 might be necessary.
  • Contact Support: If you continue to experience problems, contact Zwift or Wahoo support for assistance.

I’ll be at the top of your response, if you have further questions, comments, or feedback, please remember you can contact us anytime you need!

Tks. Some of what is mentioned was already checked. Still the same behaviour. Ill check the other suggestions to see if anything changes.

About this. I havent felt a single BT issue either now or ever since using Zwift.

How can I power Cycle

Upload logs to zwiftalizer.com and it will tell you (unless using Apple TV)

Unplug the trainer for 30 seconds

Ill try to do that.

 It has been unpluged between each ride.

Well I registred on the page and it sends a code to my email but when going back to the page to put that code the login page was off already and cant get the screen to put the code again. This was on my android phone.
Tryed to set the account several times and its not possible once my email is already registred. Theres nowhere I can fix this so dead end here.

All that is check and in order. No issue coming from any of this.

Well about this points. I Havent done the factory spindown because the kikr has automatic calibration and its working 100% while on erg mode. No need for a factory spindown or Im wrong?

I hadnt got Shifting Lag before but yesterday free ridding for 30 minutes (had set Z game resistance to 100% because before it was around 50 and changing power presentation from the 3 secs average to instant power) in some gear changes they did nothing to make the resistance change. Had to move 2 or 3 gears up to feel something changing but the sudden increase in resistance followed by the usual decrease to the expected new gear resistance was less noticed in some of the changes.
So not sure about the effect of the changes made
The cog is properly installed and my kikrv6 is for sure virtual shifting ready.

Sergio, did you ever find a fix for this? I’m experiencing the same thing on my kickr core and zwift cog that I just purchased.
