Zwift RunPod connection failure after 1.69

Hi

My Zwift RunPod was working fine until the previous update (1.69). Zwift picks up the device just fine, when I start a run the spm shows briefly as zero, and then disappears, a few seconds later I get the connection failure message. When I try to reconnect the device, it picks it up in the list, I select it, wait a few seconds and then it fails again. I also checked the battery of the Run Pod, which is brand new.

I’ve tried using the RunPod in MyWhoosh, and it works 100%. This indicates to me that its not an issue with the RunPod itself and must be something to do with the update.

Any thoughts? Or am I the only one with this issue?

Regards,
Marius

Hi @Marius_Marinus, welcome to Forums. I’m Juan from Zwift.

I’m sorry to read that you are having pairing issues with your Zwift RunPod. We have no recent reports of similar situations after the release of the latest version of the game.

The symptoms you described sound like the RunPod is “paired disconnected”. It typically means that the device is no longer communicating with the connected application or device.

Issues with Bluetooth connections are complex and often difficult to pin down. BLE signal is easy to disrupt, though some causes are far more common than others. For example, the most common cause of this issue is “Diverted Pairing” which is when your device is pairing to another app or another device (like your phone or computer directly) instead of just the Zwift app.

Please try to turn off all the devices/third-party apps that you won’t use in a specific session, and try to connect your RunPod alone with the main app to isolate the issue.

I encourage you to take a look at this article to rule out the possible causes you could fit in, there you will find some troubleshooting.

If the issue persists, please do not hesitate to write us at support@zwift.com. This way we can take a look at your in-game logs for one-on-one assistance.

Hi @Marius_Marinus welcome to Zwift forums.

Shuji at Zwift HQ here. I looked at your server logs and I’m seeing the game is finding the Zwift Runpod as a speed sensor, but there’s also some other device with a name “FS-91CCCE” also advertising itself as a speed sensor. What is that device? A smart treadmill? A fitness watch?

It’s possible that that device might be fighting with the Zwift Runpod as the data source.

Hi Shuji

Yes, the FS-91CCCE is my smart treadmill. Just to clarify, I only use the RunPod as a cadence meter.

Hi Juan

I’ve done the following:

  1. Turned off all devices that could intervere (ipad, treadmill, smart bike, fan, heart rate monitor), and only kept my phone on.
  2. Did a battery pull of the Run Pod.
  3. Checked that the Run Pod does not connect to any other app (I only opened Zwift).
  4. Started Zwift on my phone and connected to the Run Pod.

However, same issue as above. Zwift detects the Run Pod just fine, but after just a few seconds the spm number disappears and I get the connection failure message.

I tried the same steps with just my ipad, and same result.

Funny thing, its works with MyWhoosh with no connection issues.

I’ve attached some screenprints.

@Marius_Marinus
Thanks for confirming that device is a smart treadmill. Try this:

  1. The Zwift app stores a list of known devices like bike trainers, treadmills, heart rate monitors, etc that it has paired to successfully in the past. Let’s try to delete the knowndevices file to reset your game app so it doesn’t remember anything in the room. In your case as an iOS device(s) user - you’ll do that by uninstalling the Zwift main app from both your iPad and iPhone.

  2. Complicating your situation is that you have the Zwift main app installed on two different devices and have logged in from both. I imagine that’s because you’re trying to troubleshoot? Anyway - logging in from two different devices causes all sorts of issues like this if your treadmill (or Runpod) is already paired to Zwift on the other device. So don’t re-install the main app on your iPhone.

  3. Once you’ve reinstalled Zwift on your preferred device (I’ll assume that’s the iPad?): Log in, and pair the Run Speed signal first to your treadmill.
Next pair the cadence signal. Does the Zwift Runpod appear in that pairing screen?

  4. Assuming yes - very important with mobile OS platforms to always end your Zwift session by saving-and-ending (or trashing-and-ending). Additionally - force-close the Zwift app. Simply swiping an app to the background does not terminate the app.

Please do all of those things and let us know if all your devices pair correctly?

Did all the steps as outlined, but still get the same Connection Failure message.

Any other suggestions? Could it be a firmware issue with the RunPod itself?

I have the same issue, tried all the steps, nothing helped. Even created the new account - the same problem.
