Zwift on PC crashes at ~42 minutes

Since the latest update, my Zwift app is consistently crashing at around the 42 minute mark. This was previously working fine, and there have been no changes to the PC otherwise.

Symptoms:

  • Around the 42 minute mark of total time, Zwift freezes and then the app closes
  • I’ve tried waiting for awhile and riding, and around that same total time it crashes, even if I’ve been riding for 10 minutes

I’ve done all the classic steps - reboot, made sure I have the latest version, etc.

I wondet if this is the same issue as this crash after approx 30 minutes?

“I am exactly like you, waiting for a solution.”

This happend a few years ago. It was (if I remember rightly) something to do with the automatic screenshot which happens around 38 mins in

Easy to test by disabling video screenshots in settings if it’s present and enabled

Edit - oh you said screenshot (static?) I think that happens at around 18 min

I had the same problems last season after an update. After 30-60 minutes the application got stuck. I tried everything possible…
In the end, I used the graphics card driver from AMD instead of the one released by the notebook manufacturer (Huawei). After that the problems were gone.
Now I have started the Zwift season again. The first time I drove for over an hour, Zwift got stuck. It’s off to a good start.
Drivers are up to date.

Still dealing with support on this. They’ve suggested:

  • Network dropouts. This doesn’t sound related at all, because every time I’ve had a network dropout mid ride, all the other riders disappear but you’re able to continue riding.
  • OneDrive causing some sort of issue. Again, doesn’t sound related because I don’t have OneDrive installed and I never have before or during this issue. Weird copout excuse.

I’ve read that some folks with AMD GPUs had success with downloading the newest driver from the AMD site rather than whatever comes from Windows Update, so I’ve done that and going to ride a session until it crashes or manages to last longer than around 42ish minutes.

Zwift still hard locking after the driver update. This time I made it to 1h1m before the app froze, although this time it didn’t eventually close and remained frozen with the (Not Responding) tag added in the taskbar.

How much memory in your PC?

8 gigs. Looking at the log file, it winds up basically being the same as this thread with the UDP timeouts: Zwift App Freezing Windows 11 - #3 by Conor_Powell

They also have an AMD GPU, and I’ve talked to someone else who is having the same issue, also on an AMD GPU. Feels like it started about 3 weeks ago.

Hi,
I had a similar issue a couple of months ago, I ended up loading the latest graphics update direct from my computers video cards manufacturer, when windows installed it’s copy on auto-update it was not the same one as from the manufactures website and was causing some sort of corruption.
Hope this helps sort your issue

Hi John,

I addressed this just a few posts ago where the issue persists even after installing the drivers from AMD.

Support continues to tell me that OneDrive is the culprit and to disable it. Once again, OneDrive isn’t installed on this computer. Support is beyond useless.

Multiple examples of the same issue:

Another example. The common threads seem to be:

  • AMD CPU
  • AMD GPU
  • 8 gigs of memory.

Wish suport would address this.

I wrote this in another thread - 8 GB RAM is minimum for Zwift, can you upgrade?

Hi
No problem, I understand how constant crashing can be annoying, from this post it looks like some sort of update related issue, hopefully you get this sorted soon.

I am having this same problem Right at 48-50 minutes. This keeps happening. I am using a 64 GB Ram NVidia. So far the help desk has told me I don’t have enough ram and check my wifi and update to the latest version. I am running on Ethernet and I have 64 GB of RAM. Yes, I updated my Zwift version to the latest. I am thinking it may be time to go to Rouvy. I’ve been testing it and it works fine. I’ve been using zwift on this same laptop and earlier laptops since they were pretty new on the scene. Nothing else crashes this laptop except zwift.
