I really disagree on this one. It is a 4 part race so people should finish them all or be removed from the rankings.
Only if the majority can finish all 4, that is not the case now IMO:
doesnt bother me if other people have them but i cant stand having them
it’s cool, just an opinion. eric’s the organiser
ok, another proposal. Would you mind just losing your points but kept in the rankings per race ?
Since those 4 who finished 1 to 4 in race one this morning still kept their 250, 240, 230, 225 points.
So the one who ended 5th only got 220 points. But in my view should have gotten the 250 since the others didnt do all 4 races.
For this series, I thought the only ranking that anyone considered, was ZwiftInsider’s own results page on their website? (which is after review of all 4 races in their totality)
Otherwise, DQ is one label, but everyone has also asked that Zwift start using DNF labels as well. DNF seems a more apropos label to this situation.
and perhaps MIA if you leave after race 2
Eric has said he really wants to close off the race so no one can randomly register for race 2/3/4, but he does not have the right tools to make it happen. He would need to code some complicated script, and that is just not something he is interested in doing.
The Tour de France is also a 21-day event, and there are always riders who drop out early. Some sprinters only show up for the flat stages and bow out before the tough hilly week kicks in. The wins, cash, and points they earned still stand, and they do not get redistributed to other competitors. I get that some folks, like me, tend to sign up just for the first race and go all out, while others might pace themselves for all four. It is tough to say if that is unfair; it really depends on how you look at it.
Just went and read the article on ZI and it starts so nice …
“These races are meant to be raced as a set of 4.”
But sadly right below that he says its fine if you drop out.
If it is about a four race idea I really think it should a treated like that and dont allow dropouts or snipers. And if they do, they should not get points away from people doing all four of them. They could just take away a podium from someone.
Already heard a few people say it is an easy way to get ZP points if you do just one or two when the others are already tired. That should not be possible and in my view ruins the idea of a 4 race event.
New question. Does anyone know why the times are different on Zwiftpower and in the Companion App. I was watching the live stream from Zone 3 last night and we were guessing how long it would take them to finish race 4. I looked at ZP and saw that zone 1 took about 9 minutes, so I guessed that. And than they finished in 5 minutes.
Example, a friend of mine did the zone 1 races yesterday and he did the Race 4 - Mountain Mash according to Zwiftpower in 9m17s but when I check him on the companion app it shown him at 5m17s
Am I missing something here ?

Iirc the zwiftpower clock starts for all pens when the first pen sets off.
It’s a Zwiftpower bug.
Zwiftpower doesn’t always pull in the data for when each pen starts, just the event start and when each individual finishes. It’s why you get thing like people who late join events getting an elapsed time that makes them look like they’ve done the whole thing.
I think it’s related to non-standard starting order. Races that go d-c-b-a with one minute spacing seem to be fine, but any variation seems to cause the issue.
August 31st “Rollercoaster Tour” using slightly lower Racing Score pen threshold for lower pens eg. 300 for E.
Despite all the issues back on 8th June for pen E to finish on time and get to the next race pen without any recovery*, the 6.804Km race on Downtown Titans to Reverse Titans KOM summit is race one… Terrific!
- Half of zwiftpower zone 2 pen E field missed the next race
Titans Downtown course problems for pen E on 8th June as race 2…
zone 1 ZwiftPower - Login race 3 decline to ZwiftPower - Login
zone 2 ZwiftPower - Login race 3 decline to ZwiftPower - Login
zone 3 ZwiftPower - Login race 3 decline to ZwiftPower - Login
Before Racing Score began, but using custom VO2 pens iirc.
IIRC pen E was starting each race +4mins after pen D, as pen E was a new addition at time.
But without any real recovery, racers need to finish races 1-3 by 14mins max, to allow time for their device to load next event start pen, especially if in another world.
pen starts need to be reversed really for those tiny races, slower ones go off first then allows them a little bit of time to recover
I could have sworn that Eric has adjusted the pen starting order between rounds previously, giving the slower groups some extra time to finish the race and the faster groups a bit less.
When there used to be four pens, Eric had pen D go off first for races 1-3, but last for race 4. Allowing for a longer race 3 for pen D, or perhaps even a bit of recovery.
Always found it ironic that the weakest pen gets the least recovery time, as all pens do the same distance… For this troublesome Titans Downtown route, it would be like making pen A do ~11Km instead of the 6.804Km!
… I guess this is one way to try and make at least pen E racers do an honest 10min+ effort for Racing Score, in order to have a chance to take part in races 2-4 without zwiftpower DQs.
Agree.

Answer wasn’t quite what I expected:
“I’ve never fussed much with trying to give lower riders more recovery… since everyone in the category gets the same recovery window, basically. It may suck, but it sucks for all!”
Certainly sucks for those in D and E more than the other cats.
i think he meant it sucks more or less equally for every rider relative to their own pen
to be honest, these are not beginner friendly efforts by design… i am not a coach, but i wouldn’t prescribe a session like the intended function of these races to a beginner
That doesn’t really work because the slower pen would otherwise still have to be the first to start for next race 15 minutes later, so nothing accomplished. Maybe if the start times rotated 1 position for each stage?
